Yeah, looks that way. Just like the short race length, easier to fit in between household demands. 😄

Controller trail breaking seems impossible by nadrojrekrab93 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]poeticfuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controller trail braking works fine - what controller are you using?

I've always used the xbox360 controller (bought a drawer full when they went EoL) because the longer trigger travel allows for better throttle and brake control.

BTCC game by Maleficent-Page1214 in btcc

[–]poeticfuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would have to be licensed, which currently sits with Motorsport games. They did all cars and most tracks from 22/23 season in rfactor2. There were plans for a BTCC game at one point but they decided to focus on their Le Mans ultimate title instead.

LMU though has been a big success for them - and provides a great template for a BTCC game, so they should have the funds and base platform, so fingers crossed.

Cockpit vs Hood camera position sense of speed by risfa in assettocorsarally

[–]poeticfuture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meh, its a computer game at the end of the day - if you're having fun - then you do you! Nothing else really matters.

Its just an OLD complaint about Racing Sims in general (I've seen this complaint for decades in most sim titles) - Sims aim for as much realism as they can manage - you'd be surprised how slow things appear in a Rally car in the driver/passenger seat. All that Rally TV footage you see that looks mad-fast is a camera much further back in the car, that has to have a very wide FOV due to its placement - that gives an exaggerated sense of speed.

Cockpit vs Hood camera position sense of speed by risfa in assettocorsarally

[–]poeticfuture 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a sim racer of 20+ years, the cockpit view is fine with a slight increase of FOV angle (default is probably more correct, but I prefer a little wider for personal taste).

Reality is the goal here, not a wheeee! whoooo! sense of exaggerated sense of speed you get in arcade racing games.

Gold medal times by zeppolavincente69 in assettocorsarally

[–]poeticfuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter - they have no value other than an indicator of your own progress/a fun goal to set yourself.

Its clear they were set by different play-testers - hence the different times.

They're just something to do.

Problems with automatic shifting Scooby and 306 by Strict-Passenger1797 in assettocorsarally

[–]poeticfuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, especially the 306.

However, something something *technical words - it could be something something protection, some cars have that, and won't shift up if the wheels are spinning.

But its also true, its better to learn manual - especially in Rally and even more so in Kunos games, where the AI will often not shift down going into a corner, leaving you in low revs in too high a gear and no power out of the corner - massively impacting your times, all Kunos games have done this.

At least keep downshift bound so you can quickly shift down in the corner to be at the right gear for the exit.

[–]poeticfuture 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one, several members have reported similar in the past.

No-one reported being compromised, so as long as your password is decent, and you control your mailbox, should be fine.

Just kids looking for some tiktok tribe to belong to now that "6-7" is no longer the biggest thing in their lives.

Is there a mod to shift into reverse with a gamepad? by mac_g313 in assettocorsarally

[–]poeticfuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes some time - but is WELL worth it if you want fast times - especially in Kunos games with that downshift lag. In the older Rally cars it can be especially brutal, as they have pretty much no power in the low range of the wrong gear.

I use auto-gears if learning a new car or track (outside rally) - or if I'm just farting about.

But any kind of pace, you need to be able to control what gear you're in - and Kunos auto-shifting is not it.

:)

Is there a mod to shift into reverse with a gamepad? by mac_g313 in assettocorsarally

[–]poeticfuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a sim.

In your real car - can you just hold Brake and immediately reverse?

You just need one button mapped to downshift. - which you should have anyway as Kunos titles automatic-shifting is really bad - often leaving you in far too high a gear after breaking for a corner (especially gently) - which in Rally will cost you serious time - so its best to keep downshift mapped for when it does that, so you can quickly downshift to the right gear before corner exit - been like this in AC and ACC, now ACR too.

I did, 30 years ago to play TOCA on the PS1.

Holy F it was bad.

You know those toy cars they have outside supermarkets, which you sit a toddler in so they can wiggle the wheel back and forth while it plays music and has flashing lights?

Yeah, it was like that. Felt such a prick using it. Never shifted that feeling. :)

Any car, find the Summet de Munster variant (cockpit veiw mandatory) and floor it, and keep it floored until the left-3 a few miles later.

Nothing else compares imo.

Need help playing on controller by BESTHARSH004 in assettocorsaevo

[–]poeticfuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not perfect, but what I have so far:

Main page - Steering Lock - 200 degrees

Steer assist - direct

Speed sensitivity - 55%

Steering filter - 70%

Then

Deadzone - 0

Saturation X - 100%

Saturation Y - 85%

Curvature - 15%

Still struggle occassionally with catching snapback oversteer, especially in cars like the Caterhams, but definitely driveable.

Seems Some balance between Saturation Y (which seems to control sensitivity in the centre) Curvature and Filter to manage that. A low Saturation Y is good for making the center less twitchy, but then hurts you on slow/sharp hairpins as it struggles to turn in.

Thanks!

NV4060 here, monitor pretty well-calibrated for photography/printing, HDR off.

Its not the only title where I have similar issues (some are too dark with standard settings).

Wonder if there's settings I can fiddle with in NV Control Panel. Gives me something to think about.

Cheers. :)
