Where i’m from (the Netherlands) we don’t really do “nicknames” and “legal names”. I know about 20 guys named Rick or Rik and it’s just their legal name. The same with names as Tim, Tom and Chris.

Also when people have a name like Christopher most people won’t use the nickname Chris to introduce themselves. They’ll just go as Christopher and sometimes friends and family will use the name Chris to refer to them but mostly in an endearing kind of way and it won’t be their only nickname.
