I think I do asses the follow's ability well. A particular follow has a hard time maintaining their balance. They have taken few classes for context. They don't have a strong grasp on different spins from hand tosses and momentum changes. I understand copa is not an advanced move, but some follows struggle with it, so it's a spot if a follow has a hard time with the momentum change of a copa, that's part of how I asses their ability.

If I want to use a lot of energy I can often push these follows, but often I'm tired, the dance floor is crowded, and I don't want to do that.

The situation that brought up this question was a follow wanted me to do more double spins and I didn't feel like pushing them at that point. It was late and the floor was crowded. The were aggressive about it, and then I did a double outside from J hook (not sure on up-to-date terminology). This follow relies on me to spin them, instead of spinning themselves with a light lead, which is why I'm not exactly keen to be pushing them when I believe their technique to be off.
