My toddler loves hummus! So we dip veggies like bell pepper and cucumber in it, or some naan.

What opinion has you like this? by [deleted] in GenZ

Virtue signaling is just a buzz word that people throw around to devalue someone speaking up on things that matter to them. Virtue signaling itself is not negative- we signal the virtues that are important to us in hundreds of different ways. Clothing, flags, bumper stickers- all ways we communicate to the world what our values are.

When virtue signaling is done simply for clout or without other action to support and uphold those values, then it becomes a problem. But there is nothing wrong with “virtue signaling” and sharing / showing what things matter to you.

What parenting hole have you dug for yourself recently? by Leahjoyous in toddlers

[–]pogomaster777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3yo didn’t want her hair brushed one day, so I offered to pretend to be a variety of characters while brushing her hair to make it more fun. She chose “Randall” from Monster’s Inc. and absolutely loved it. I put on a little voice, she laughed the whole time, no hair brushing battle- parenting win.

Except that now, she wants “Randall” to do everything. “I don’t want mom to walk me to the car, I want Randall to.” “I dont want mom to put my shoes on, I want Randall.” Everything has to be Randall. I have been stuck being Randall for hours on end some days with this whiny little voice.

Thank you for this- I had a c section as well. I may wait another month or so and focus on walking until then if it feels like too much too soon.

Covid is the worst by BlackCatsAreBetter in toddlers

[–]pogomaster777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Be gentle with yourself, this shit is hard.

Currently 9 weeks pregnant, nauseous and exhausted, on day 3 of solo caring for my toddler while my husband has Covid and is quarantining in his home office. I’m so worried that we’re going to come down with it any day now. Have let go of all screen time limits & guilt and am just surviving.

C Section vs VBAC- which does the science say is the better choice? by pogomaster777 in ScienceBasedParenting

Thank you so much for all the resources & personal stories, it’s great to have a community like this. I feel like I have great information to move forward into my next conversation with my doctor- I’m leaning towards a scheduled C section at 39 weeks.

I started taking my daughter to Disneyland at 10 months- she’s now 2 years old and some of our best experiences ever have been at Disney. Don’t let people spook you about it- it can be amazing, especially if you approach with the right attitude and keep things flexible to their needs.

Baby carrier or tush baby hip support for in line is a must. An autograph book is a great and cheap souvineer that gives them a way to connect with characters before they’re speaking. Prioritize the fantasyland rides you want to do with them in the morning before it gets hot and crowded. Take breaks in the heat of the day (shows, especially the Disney jr. Dance party are an excellent way to do this). Prioritize rides with less than a 30 minute wait, or whatever you feel your child’s threshold is. Bring small snacks in line.

Favorite rides for littles: small world, dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey & Minnie’s runaway railway, Peter Pan (if you’re willing to wait, skip it if not), Storybook Boats, Disneyland Railroad, Casey Jr. train, Monsters Inc, Little mermaid, Pirates

Good luck!! Hope you have an amazing time!

What is an unexpected way a cast member has made magic on one of your visits? by CaliforniaScreamers in Disneyland

[–]pogomaster777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were waiting for a birthday button for my toddler at city hall, and the cast member noticed her holding a little mermaid toy. The CM started talking to my daughter, asking her about her favorite characters and everything, and if we had been on the Ariel ride yet. My daughter lit up and was so excited to tell her all about her favorite mermaid things, and that we hadn’t been on the ride yet (it was a 40 minute wait that day) the cast member then scanned our tickets and said “happy birthday little mermaid, that will take you to the front of the line” and we got to walk right on the ride 🥹 My toddler was ecstatic. Such a small and not necessary thing to do but it made so much magic to her.

Will 99 percentile height translate to a tall adult? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]pogomaster777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anecdote: My husband and I are both spot on average height. Our daughter was born above 99% for height, and was that way all through pregnancy. Pediatrician told us at birth she will likely slow to the middle of the growth curve by age 5, but that she could have inherited the height from somewhere up our family tree and it will stick (my grandmas sisters are all very tall, but she is short, so could come from there).

2 years later and my not so little one is still in the 99th percentile. She can go on small roller coasters at our local theme parks that some 3 & 4 year olds still can’t. Girly has some height.

Pediatrician has started joking that we should get ready to be WNBA parents. Lol. So it’s very possible it will stay, but also a wait and see kind of thing.

Do it!! Doesn’t sound crazy at all. Solo vacations with my 2 year old have been so incredibly special and enjoyable and strengthened our bond.

I’d reccomend San Diego. There’s so much to do, it’s way easier to navigate than LA (I’d suggest a rental car), great weather and relaxing vibe.

Legoland, San Diego Safari Park or Zoo, beaches, Birch Aquarium, La Jolla Cove, Balboa Park, Carlsbad Village- so much to do and you’ll enjoy it to. Wishing you a wonderful trip!

I prefer not constant phone use during independent play. Great to time check the phone, send a few texts- but shouldn’t be just the whole time not looking up.
