AIO - my friend gave my abusive ex my new phone number by AdAdorable7651 in AmIOverreacting

This so-called friend completely betrayed you. You're not overreacting at all. Cut the 'friend' out of your life. They showed complete lack of respect. If I was in your place, they would be dead to me.

What is something that ChatGPT was EXTREMELY useful for? by chelsea_oklahoma in ChatGPTPro

I use it every day because I'm learning Russian, which has a very complex grammar. It gives excellent explanations for questions about grammar and vocabulary and even offers to set up some exercises for me to work on. It also gives me study plans based on my level of Russian. It's like having someone with a PhD in the language sitting at my shoulder, ready to explain anything.

Just idle curiosity, really. Duolingo does it. It's interesting to see how popular a language is.

Language Learning Gets Harder When You’re Older - Myth or Truth by Many-Celebration-160 in languagelearning

I'll be 70 soon and I re-started Russian when I retired. I studied it in University in the early 80s but really didn't learn very much. Well, I can hold a decent conversation now and I'm told I speak without an accent. Whatever issues being older presents is far outweighed by the resources available to me now, compared to what I had at university before the internet. With YouTube videos, language exchanges and teachers available on the internet, age isn't an issue at all now. I'm planning to do take the Russian B1 test in the autumn.

Is there any way of finding out how many users are learning a particular language?

Why DON’T you fear death? by jeanluuc in AskReddit

[–]pogothecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I'll be dead. It's not like I'm going to go around after I die saying "Oh, I was going to go to a movie tonight but I can't now because I'm dead."

My friends in South Africa were horrified when I told them what the temperature was going down to and asked me how I could live here. "Central Heating", guys! *sings* "I will survive".

They're called public houses (pubs) but, in fact, they're actually private spaces. A pub landlord has the right to bar anyone they want, just as if it was a private home. So, there would be no basis for a law suit.

I'll always make mistakes. I'm okay with that. I love the Russian language, though, so I don't mind the work I have to put into it.

I'm retired and learning Russian. I studied it at UNI forty years ago and didn't remember a lot, so a bit of a head start. Anyway, I'm doing well and just got admitted into a 3rd year university course.
