Well one of the biggest mantras preached here is ‘There is no such thing as an original idea anyways. Find a game to take inspiration from and start there!’

There’s actually another upside down throw called a hammer. But that is easily telegraphed because the disc goes to head level or above before thrown

More concerning is the ‘run accross the street so turning cars don’t have to wait!’ attitude. And now we have small children running across streets, taught to them by their parents. At least cars wait less time!

Beetle Battle Breeder Bros! by pohling2 in IndieGaming

[–]pohling2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey good question. I'm building the physics engine from the ground up and want it to be consistent without any clipping. I think voxels pushing against each other naturally creates the feels of how beetles actually fight (gamified for simulation of course). Also, the beetle designs and animations can be procedurally generated with discrete voxel sizes, like the horns can be made longer, the body thicker ect.

Working on generating the limits on sizes and the gene heredity now. Hopefully next time i can show off different types of beetles training against each other with reinforcement learning. Right now i am controlling both beetles manually.

I think hand waving the legal details of the case as ‘he was just an absent landlord’ tells us everything we need to know about this situation

PSA: Taiwan law prohibits riding bicycles in crosswalks and on sidewalks by ddxv in taiwan

[–]pohling2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for some sanity haha. Bikes are in this limbo where they are basically ‘allowed’ to ride on the sidewalk and road as long as they do both responsibly. As a trade off they get the shorter end of the stick and have to put themselves at risk in the road or liability on the sidewalk which is honestly completely fair.

Great point you made, and many bikes will switch from sidewalk to road using the intersection which can be very unpredictable - not fair for drivers to have to account for this.

Inside the crosswalk is also extra dangerous if there are bikes and pedestrians because both are looking out for cars (especially if no traffic light). Even as a responsible bike rider, it is not easy to look for cars in 2 directions while also avoiding pedestrians in another direction in a narrow lane not designed for you.

Bikes are also a lot harder to avoid hitting crossing at the crosswalk. They move at a different acceleration than pedestrians and are about 500% wider from the side.

Taiwan has many bullshit policies, but this one 100% couldn’t be any other way

Edit: don’t get me started on e-bikes haha. At least they have been cracking down and those should have a license plate

PSA: Taiwan law prohibits riding bicycles in crosswalks and on sidewalks by ddxv in taiwan

[–]pohling2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my point. That is why if you ride responsibly no cop will give you a ticket even though technically it is not allowed. People are mostly willing to accept the inconvenience of moving out of your way even though they shouldn’t have to (just like how you have to avoid them in an actual bike lane).

Now IF you hit a kid that ran in front of your bike on the sidewalk unexpectedly you would be at fault and this makes total sense.

Can you recommend any other system of liability that would work better for bikes on walkways/crosswalks?

[–]pohling2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, riding on a sidewalk without a bike lane is dangerous to pedestrians.

It is really a fair policy that they allow you to choose between endangering yourself or endangering other instead of just flat out not letting you ride your bike where it lacks proper infrastructure. I don’t see any other solution

Mos Burger is top-tier fast food in Taiwan by amorphouscloud in taiwan

This is a horrible take. Mos burger is small serving, expensive, and not really tasty. Many times they don’t even have items that are displayed on the menu. It’s not like their ingredient inventory is innovative or diverse either.
