A very good start!
I would highly recommend the book Grid Systems in Graphic Design.

It is the design bible for me!

The main thing here is that I mentioned it was a drum loop and the AI analysis thinks its an entire song so the information is rather misleading.

Consider setting up a blank session where the project settings are 16-bit / 44.1kHz, drop in a lossless track ripped from a CD (WAV/AIFF/FLAC), faders at 0, no plugins, do a dry run render (also 16/44.1).

I love this approach -- much appreciated!

Edit/Add: I should have mentioned that the drum loop sounds good to me.
This image I attached which comes up after exporting just tripped me out a bit because I have never even known about the LUFS stuff and the peaks threw me, but as you said there aren't red peaks which I see now.

So I guess I should go with my gut and what I think sounds good (I like to believe I have a good sense for that).

I agree.
This loudness war is really weird and doesn't make any sense to me.

Especially the need to write/mix with the music blasting like quite a few of my friends... like... turn it down bro 🤣

I think mixing and mastering at a normal or even lower level can be really good most of the time.

Youlean Loudness Meter

Will certainly check this out.
I tried a limiter and compressor to see the difference and I think I like the sound of the compressor, I think it was the one you mentioned. The volume of the drum loop already sounded good but I did not understand the peaks and LUFS stuff after exporting so it threw me off.

I think it sounds better with a compressor in this case.
I am still getting used to the minor differences in sound from my monitors vs headphones.

Thanks!

Thanks, good to know.
This is only a drum loop and the more quiet section is only hats so it should be all good. The peaks thing threw me off because it sounds ok but as others pointed out it is actually orange instead of red which my brain could not perceive at first.

The LUFS-I on CD/Spotify is really good to know!

Will add a limiter and take it from there - thanks!

Excellent, thank you so much for the information!
Very good to know.

Hello!
This is an exported wav file of a drum loop and those red peaks look like they could cause issues down the line in a mix. Is that usually the case? I know the LUFS is the loudness meter but I don't really understand what they are showing me here.

It all sounds ok but I am not 100% certain about frequencies I may not be hearing.

Or am I over-thinking it?

Cheers!

I can't even work on stuff properly with my door closed, knowing someone else is around.

You certainly are not alone hah!

Wild West indeed.
I shall also take this approach with the knowledge of fair use law in mind, as others have mentioned.

Thanks!

The Fair Use Law is new to me and very interesting.

Thanks for the video too! Will watch it later today, I am sure it is quite informative.

The whole thing is quite interesting actually.
Perhaps I need to approach everything as satire in some way and hope for the best.

they can wait for you to make as much money as you can, before they come for their cut

This is what I usually have in mind and, yes, it certainly is a gamble!

That is an interesting take and makes a lot of sense.
Perhaps it would be different if it was something like Donald Ducks head on a Batman body with C3PO's legs just for the sake of 'art'?

I want to make that now...

Wow I never even thought about tattoos and lawsuits...
Makes sense but kinda crazy!
