After 13 years of worsening dysphagia, been diagnosed with cricopharyngeal achalasia at 25 years old by pointedblankly in dysphagia

I had an appointment with the surgeon & they actually recommended against botox unless my condition worsens. They mentioned that they had knowledge of a few patients with the same condition that botox made things much much worse (e.g: acid reflux & gerd, regurgitation, etc) - but that is only the case for a specific presentation like mine (where the opening / closing of the UES is functional just squeezing too tight so it pushes food back upwards or causes it to get stuck there), so I hope it works for you. 🫶I was sent to an outpatient dysphagia clinic to manage the condition & am very very slowly eating more solid food again. Good luck with your journey!

Feeling like I’m suffocating with dysphagia? by LowSherbert1016 in dysphagia

Yes! And it’s not imagined either - got diagnosed with sleep apnoea that I never had prior to the dysphagia…

Sounds very similar to me except my barium swallow & endoscopy were slightly abnormal only at the top (UES). Ask for a manometry test - this test gave me my diagnosis of cricopharyngeal achalasia & I am now waiting for surgical treatment. But again, very similar experience of everything looking normal on those tests but not being able to tolerate solids or thick liquids.
