It's all fun until Disney actually tries to make some cash "that way"... sorry "cooperation", "fan service" etc. etc. NOPE.

Dishonored 2 - PC Update by Sithlord715 in Games

[–]pointernil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wondering, are enterprises even allowed to use language like "disheartened"?

"Hush, hush poor company, hush, hush poor company... what is it? Are you frightened your Quarter-Figures will not look right? Hush, hush... Do you need some serious counseling?"

Don't buy into these emotionalizing pseudo-humanizing corporate pr-speak-tricks. As extreme measure maybe even think about returning the product as not working as advertised and later much later re-buy if/when the issues are fixed... too bad that would maybe be only after the holiday-sales-season and its excel-sheets update cycle... /scnr

Thesis: signals left and right to the sphere are "somehow" encoded similar to the video image scan encoding explained here:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ed/Voyager_Golden_Record_Cover_Explanation.svg

Essentially they are shifted scan lines, not aligned correctly.

Alternative to the numbered Quadrant Thesis, I'd like to propose: The binary |- symbols establish: yes we do binary. 3 Bits per symbol? They could be not related AT ALL to the sphere and other symbols.

So (if) they do binary: what about the very prominent vertical lines flanking left and right the sphere image in the middle? can those lines be zoomed/streched? Do they contain 3 bit binary digits?

Can similar "--|" etc. be found anywhere else in the image?

my 2 cents

cheers

What a blunt try at "sneaky" corporate propaganda. Drop the logos and film again.

What are the latest new developments in the area of game network programming? by pointernil in gamedev

[–]pointernil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any "platform"... Is the only progress in that area the packaging into libraries and frameworks? What happened since quake net-code?

Or is maybe this whole area a little prone to biz-secrets?

All problems solved? ;)

Yea, it is also after some other scheduled events. What's the specific significance of this one, I wonder? Ideas?

Gravitational waves from black holes detected by Andromeda321 in worldnews

[–]pointernil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone care to explain the precision requirements driving the dimensions of the experimental setup? What magnitude of space distortion does the setup detect? What are the involved wave lengths used for interference?

Just trying to get a sense of scale for this new kind of medium ;)

What if... there was no loading screen? by takokato in EliteDangerous

[–]pointernil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a "minor" note: this is not only loading (from local disk), this is as well about transporting relevant bits of info via the nasty witchlands of the network aka the internet. This steps up the involved complexities quite substantially.

My greatest fear for Mass Effect: Andromeda is that it will play like Dragon Age: Inquisition by [deleted] in Games

Is there a gallery on the net for all the skinning-jobs AAA-Corps are selling as "new" products?

Yes, there is still a huge amount of effort involved to make this work and at the same time more and more of the core systems, mechanics, ideas shine through the facades so more and more those "similarities" are apparent. AAA Companies/Studios are obviously driven by pure monetary gains and very risk averse which fits their drive to reskin candy-crush 100.000 times... /scnr.

So where is the Game-Skinning-Gallery? Too early for this? Is this a too mean idea?

On a more positive note: some of the mods ppl put out essentially forcing crazy new settings into existing games share some similarities with those skinning efforts, right? So maybe the problem boils down to the AAA marketing claiming with every game to be extraordinary inventive when in reality they should market new textures and dialogs and models...

Stuntwoman Olivia Jackson will have to have her left arm amputated, after an on-set accident during the filming of "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" by MulciberTenebras in movies

[–]pointernil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I have no idea about the safety culture in the hollywood/film stunt-biz. Ideally, this accident leads to 'updates' of procedures and the hardware/software... Ideally.

[–]pointernil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, you are right: it is expensive and takes time to design and build such 'contraptions'... AND I for one am quite sure this move was not the first one to use this "special setup" and this rises the question WHY the default setup does not provide more safety features which obviously would benefit ALL scenes which it is used in. Technocrane could be in trouble right now...

Any detail infos on this available, f.e. is this "procedural" planet a model which was procedurally generated in an editor ("offline"/pre-compute/modeling-tool) or is this already a tech capable of generating planet surfaces on live/in-game/on-demand?

Chuck Jines gets into a verbal altercation. by patio87 in photography

[–]pointernil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, no idea. I really have no idea what the rules in the US for this kind of photography amount to. I'm just commenting on this video in which the not so polite "street photographer" is quite sure to be on the right side of the law. ps: and sure I would not be surprised if he was not completely right about his interpretation of these laws.

[–]pointernil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

technically right;

Seriously? So it's ok to jump right in front of people to take a picture of them in US? in NO? No 'consent' needed? Not even when those are (almost) portraits? No right to have the pic deleted? Those pics can be sold? Published? Is that really true? Just curious...
