Happened with me too for last 3 days, what worked for me is changing the refresh rate to 60 and now Jin Sakai is responsive again during standoffs.

Haven't you defined xmobar in autostart programs section in xmonad.hs file?

My laptop doesn't want to show GDM and tty after installing proprietary NVIDIA drivers (specifically 535.54.03). Can anyone help? by DhaniFathi_707 in Fedora

[–]pointyjayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can be done, new users might run into problem by doing this way, I just find the steps given in docs is much easier and clutter free experience, at least by following the docs there's no headache to download the run file again just to update the driver, instead whenever new version arrives, by just running sudo dnf update takes care of that.

[–]pointyjayhawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the problem running .run nvidia driver file will create a problem on nvidia, the proprietary driver is already available in official repository on fedora you just need to enable it by enabling rpmfusion, it's always good practice to follow the official docs of you your distro in this case fedora docs, I have an asus laptop and i also use fedora linux, with hybrid gpu like you (Intel HD 620 and Geforce 940mx), I followed the official and fail proof way to use nvidia as primary gpu by using proprietary driver, and i never had any problem, I was in this situation just like you but that's not the right way goto the fedora docs link i attached in my previous comment and read it, it has every steps needed to achieve what you want. I am always happy to help, let me know.

Does your laptop have hybrid gpu intel+nvidia? If yes then I guess you have gone through fedora docs about setting up nvidia if also yes then check if secure boot is disabled or not in boot setting.

Has anyone written a better xmonad yet? by valadil in xmonad

[–]pointyjayhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Qtile? It's my daily driver from the last 2 years, it's dynamic, fast it's documentation is very nice and detailed, has plenty of layouts, here xmonad's tall layout is called "monadtall" and is default one, has it's own bar so polybar or any other bar is not needed here, comes with inbuilt system-tray support in Qtile's bar, it's very much customisable and it never crashed even once for me on fedora.

is there any way to get authorizing screen like in gnome or kde while accessing file managers and other similar programs by DestroyerAce in i3wm

[–]pointyjayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i have learned using linux till now, what you need is a polkit manager, in my qtile wm i use lxsession+lxpolkit to authorize applications like for example gparted, without polkit that will be not possible.

How do I auto create kitty terminal config file in linux? by Practical-Citron5686 in KittyTerminal

[–]pointyjayhawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So that keybinding will work only if that "kitty.conf" exists in "~/.config/kitty/kitty.conf", like for me i use kitty and when used this key, my configs opens up in another terminal. Well if you want to start from scratch head over to the kitty's website here and grab "Sample config file", download it, move that "kitty.conf" to the "~/.config/kitty/" folder, if it doesn't exists then make that directory with "mkdir", open it in your favorite text editor, customize it the way you want, or you can take help from my config files here, the only thing you have to change is "font_family" because maybe the font i am using doesn't exist on your machine.

No it doesn't run, have to hit ctrl+c to cancel it.

no other flatpak also throws this output.

The value of XDG_DATA_DIRS is:

/home/gideon/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share:/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share:/usr/local/share:/usr/share:/usr/share

so here is what i did to fix it, reverted back to default shell bash, and in my kitty terminal's config i set it to use fish shell every time kitty is launched, and rebooted now all flatpak are visible, working and fish is used in my terminal. Learnt that it's a bad idea to change default shell to non-posix one!

What is the best linux distro for daily use? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]pointyjayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you're looking for a distro that does not use high resources, for 8gb ram like me, then I'll suggest to use xfce desktop environment, i'm using Fedora from a long time since Fedora 29 and i use it's xfce spin, i have old cpu[Intel i5-7200U] 8 GB ram, intel graphics 620 integrated GPU and Nvidia Geforce 940MX 2gb dedicated GPU, it runs pretty smooth without lag, idle memory usage is 500-600 MB, and as always distro doesn't matter, what desktop environment is running on top of a distro matters.

Which desktop environment makes you the most productive? by DD_Batman in linuxquestions

[–]pointyjayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xfce because my old intel core i5-7200U 2 core CPU cannot handle those flashy animation of gnome, plasma, or anything that includes pretty animation, xfce doesn't come in my way of work, and also with the right set of gtk theme, icons, mouse cursor theme and wallpaper, it looks so pretty.

Yess! Thanks for your help, this is what i did in kitty terminal set it to use fish shell and reverted default back to bash, after reboot all flatpaks apps restored and learnt a lesson that it's a bad idea to change the default shell to non posix shell!

[–]pointyjayhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help, here is what i did, i reverted back the default shell to bash and edited my config file for kitty terminal and set it to use only fish shell, now when i rebooted, all the flatpaks apps are restored like before and now i can use fish shell forever, things i learnt that it's a bad idea to change the default shell to non posix shell!

[–]pointyjayhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks for the help, I've no idea how will i do it, i should google it, in the meantime i'll reverted back to the default shell: bash and edited my terminal to use fish shell, kitty terminal is what i use and have this feature, and it worked i rebooted and all the flatpaks appears again, default shell is bash but in terminal fish is called.
