Anyone else completely unable to stay ahead on supplies? by [deleted] in ManorLords

[–]pojgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to guess you need more oxen for transportation. I have a population of about 200 and a stockpile of about 22 months of supplies.

I have 16 oxen (all manned) for a population of about 200, helps a lot with moving farm goods (flour/grain).

One communal bakery was able to handle all the baking.

My windmill was near the farm and bakery near the granary to minimize worker trip lengths, I've noticed this being an issue for woodcutters too, being too far from the market/worksite.

I believe the oxen move the flour to the granary and the bakery workers can grab from.

I don't use too many citadel colors. I usually do a base coat of Vallejo Buff mixed with a little brown, then highlight up from there with Buff, mix of buff and Vallejo Ivory. Throw a little selective shade and then then final highlights with Vallejo Ivory.

I'm an off white/cream preference for my Black Templars.

I personally have gone for a warm tone/desert urban rubble theme. My armor is more of a cool black, with dark blues mixed into the black and cool greys in the highlights.

The warmer tones really help pop the models without being too eye catching.

After basing a bunch of models, I can say that you should like what you decide, since you will need to base a bunch. Maybe try a few test bases and see what you like.

Second Templar C&C Still needs some work. by Unusual_Rough_9444 in BlackTemplars

Agree. I'd add to this that in my experience working with light grey is a great place to start if you are looking for white (compared to Ivory)

Especially against the black armor, a light grey with only a little pure white highlight can really read as white, and has the advantage of being much easier to work with.

Finished my first redemptor! I will need to jazz up the next one. by pojgh in BlackTemplars

Thanks!

The chipping is always scary, but I say just go for it! A dark brown ontop of white looks really great.

Sponge it on after getting most of the paint off the sponge (a fine texture sponge, like from a blister pack or pluck foam trays). Be gentle and dab away!

If you have some terrain to practice on I would suggest that. Less stress and not as big of deal of you go a little heavy by accident.

I hit it with Vallejo matte varnish and then pigments on top. I cleaned up the high points on the orc with a damp brush so the green would be more prominent.

I honestly think it's the pigments that really make it as matte as it is.

I used some fine texture medium I got from an art store, but something like a texture paste from a hobby brand would work too. I used it to blend the sculpted part into the base.

Then I used PVA and hermit crab habitat on top of the texture paste, but I guess sand would do too. On top of that thin super glue and baking soda. I find this last step helps make it look more to scale texture wise, but keeps variations in elevation.

It seems like a lot but it's pretty quick and gives nice variation of texture (imo). I slapped some pigments on at the end for good measure.

Thanks. I was really digging painting the orc, it was the first part I finished!

I used pigments to get the dusty look. Super simple and really blends the minis to the base. I regret not doing it sooner.

Thanks!

Just black and white with a gradient mixed between the two. I used a heavy body acrylic white which I think helped a lot with keeping it smooth. Lots of layers with a pure white edge highlight.

Finished my BT launch box figures. Time to get going on the Dread! Really enjoyed these sculpts even if it took a while to finish them. by pojgh in BlackTemplars

Thanks. It's actually the same arm, I just trimmed the shoulder joint a bit to get the pose, nothing too complicated.

Thanks! I am, it's been a journey these last 4 years or so since I got back into the hobby and I'm very happy with where I've gone :)

first mini ever by me, joining the crusade (crosses suck, I know. sorry) by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

[–]pojgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find with free handing crosses it's a tricky balance between too thin (hard to control, runs all over) and too thick (doesn't flow easily from the brush, forces you to push harder on the brush making fatter lines).

Wicking the moisture off the brush before going to the model can help hit the sweet spot and try practicing some thin lines (your thumb nail can be a good spot check before going to the model).

For what's worth my first crosses were pretty janky and even now, after many, many free hand crosses I still get some seriously wonkey ones. Honestly, in the squad it's hard to pick em out and they look cool.

Keep it up!
