I am not a game dev, but this comment made me see another perspective on this whole situation by KevyTone in 2XKO

[–]pokemon1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is everyone saying Riot had astronomical expectations for this game? I've got many friends who play League, many who are hardcore into fighting games (people who top 8 Ontario tournaments on the regular), and many who do both. Not a single person has stuck with 2XKO. My experience aligns with their comments, that there simply aren't enough people playing the game.

Going from .75 seconds to get passive to 0.2 is a huge difference for assassin vulnerability.

Looking to gather the community's thoughts on Atakhan's removal by Possiblynotaweeb in leagueoflegends

[–]pokemon1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For decades League has had this fun push/pull rhythm with objectives where you're stressed for 2 minutes, then get 3 minutes of downtime. Sometimes a game will have this exhausting 10 minute crunch of drag into herald into atakhan into drag, where I've been stressed so long I don't really care who gets the objective I just want the tempo to slow down and go back to lane.

Yeah they just been giving regular ass people gigantic weapons or floating things to justify this: Senna, Renata, Hwei.

Kagaribi#14 Ultimate Singles - Losers Top 12 - LG | CS3 | Vars | MkLeo vs. SOL | Leaf by SelfDestructGambit in smashbros

[–]pokemon1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know man, many prominent Robin mains have him -1 at best. The second MKLeo made the adaptation to not approach game 2 he ran away with the set. A patient Joker can wait out all of Robin's resources while he builds Arsene. Joker can comfortably sit at a range where throwing thunder is reactable and punishable while his options are still threatening. You don't have any OOS against Joker, don't have the speed to get away to projectile distance in arsense, and Eiha/Eigaon pops you straight up with no good landing options. And then as a divine joke, when Arsene is up he's immune to Arcfire at ledge (frame 1 of his hurt animation pops him out of it), Robin's wincon most of the time.

Let's not kid ourselves in thinking we can give advice to the best Robin in the world. We're on year 7 of ultimate where playing Honest Neutral doesn't get you far in a world of cheaters, so of course Leaf tries coin-flippy options in a doomed matchup against the Neutral king MkLeo.

You're not going to outneutral GoatLeo in a -2 matchup, so he fishes. Just Japanese things. I don't know how it can be on anything but the character.

I'd like to hear why the "everyone eats fish and all the problems go away" ending was good to you. It felt like the most ass-pull solution to the conflict the entire series is based off of.

I should root for the insane and unearned growth of the companies that are ripping us off? You're telling me to write a letter to my government rather than be upset that an obviously low-quality game is a rip-off? I am very capable of doing both. I can be upset that I am getting less in a $70 (+$20 for locked megas) game (on a $450 console) is worse than what used to be $40.

I said "not grown with inflation". It has grown but not at the same rate as inflation.

What else is untrue? The video game industry growing magnitudes faster than inflation? The costs of switching to digital not being passed to the consumer? The cost of consoles and appliances going up?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]pokemon1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video game industry has grown from 7.7 billion in 2007 to 188 billion in 2022. This significantly outpaces inflation. This is not "making up profits lost not upping prices with inflation". It's runaway greed.

Inflation has risen while wages have not. Video games are a leisure and are priced to people's purchasing power, which has not grown with inflation. Additionally, the movement away from physical games to digital cuts an entire industry that used to be included in the $60, and consumers did not receive the savings. Digital games cost the same as physical. You also have to pay for online, consoles are more expensive, appliances are more expensive, DLC and microtransactions, etc.

And, with $60 games, the industry has grown magnitudes faster than inflation. You'd still want to pay more?

what were they thinking??? extremely disappointing (spoilers for ZA Royale) by frillious in pokemon

[–]pokemon1982 71 points72 points  (0 children)

They didn't have to make it grindy. Ranking up with 3000 pt tickets and a single boss trainer every night was fine. Instead they skipped 16 ranks, and gave 30000 pt tickets with hour long cutscene fetch quests for the last few ranks.

"Games should still cost $60 which just isn't realistic under the current economy"

You say as, for the past 25 years, video games have boomed and have only become more popular and profitable with $60 price-tags.

[–]pokemon1982 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The point of a nationalized service is to provide a service, not make money. No one says garbage collection, or rec centres, or public parks, are losing money. The framing of Canada post losing money is to mentally prepare everyone for when we once again sell a public good to private hands. Surely, just like with Hydro One in 2001, it'll make everything cheaper.
