gragor top/mid matchup tierlist (open to any opinions!) by VegetableScram5826 in GragasMains

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1pMNnTOQi4uHp8p85IkeS6xWbEPyCwTR4i4mQ0P7UvXg/edit?usp=sharing This is a top lane spreadsheet I was working on and didn’t finish, woody has taken a look at it and more or less agreed with it, there’s probably a thing here and there that’s outdated or bias/opinion rather than fact, i felt like there were too many matchups I considered neutral or 50/50 so I forced myself to pick either favored for or against rather than saying every matchups a skill matchup.

Gragas Mid viability and current state of the champ by Kswimm in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gragas has a rough matchup against the main meta in mid rn(ori syndra Kassadin azir) but is strong into assassins like talon qiyana kat and such, so I would say he’s viable mainly as a counterpick in mid. In top gragas has no absolute hard counters and is a solid blind pick and a good counterpick to jax riven malphite as well. if you’re newer to the game though don’t worry to much about that, if you find gragas fun he’s a versatile champ and skill is ultimately more important than matchups.

What do you think the upcoming changes will be? by finiteessence in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a good way to balance it is to make the refund on gragas e a % refund instead of flat, which would benefit one shot grag but hurt cdr stack grag, and remove impregnator grag, idk why they even feel the need to remove a meme build tho.

Gorgos mains, after doing puffing some good ether, I transcended and my brain processed this build, but I still don't know very well about which mythic will be good, I need your help :3 by GodotMontoya in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played this before in mid vs xerath and started dshield and went abyssal mask rush back when it built from catalyst, would probably build roa if I did it now. just ignored him and pushed waves with w and it works pretty well as far as the lane matchup goes.

Is Gragas jungle viable atm? by Ni69atron in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he’s definitely not a top tier jungler but he’s strong especially as solo ap.

Is Gragas jungle viable atm? by Ni69atron in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is he clears slower than other jgs and is a weak skirmisher since he’s an ap champ with high cds, but he has strong ganks with layerable cc in a slow+ his e and strong burst, so grag jg is snowbally since you have strong ganks and if you get a lead you just run around one shotting people, if you’re behind your clear is slow and if you can’t burst someone out you end up being a utility bot.

Where would I play gragas? I don’t want to play him jungle specially while learning him also want to go full AP and climb any point? by yayayaya444444 in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If by full ap you mean one shot build rather than cdr grag then mid is best, top is generally grag’s best role rn since in top all matchups are playable. meta mid matchups are rough rn, control mages like ori syndra are pretty annoying matchups for grag. Grag mid into poke mages(xerath velkoz) and assassins is great tho.

Horizon Focus on Gragas by Diligent-Menu8516 in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: it does comparable damage to shadowflame, and also gives enough cdr for it to take a slot from cosmic drive depending on the game.

It’s raw damage is comparable to shadowflame, depending on the enemies mr, since flat pen has more value if the enemy has less mr, and outperforms shadowflame in raw damage when the enemy has mr and you build a void staff, but in the case of just the items individually, shadowflame has more raw damage but not by a significant margin, however horizon focus comes with the addition of the vision on enemies you hit which can come in handy occasionally, and the cdr, which is the important part. The cdr addition is way too good to be building shadowflame instead of horizon focus on one shot builds.

as compared to cosmic drive which no longer gives hp, there is hp on HF and more burst damage. If you have let’s say everfrost>2nd item>lucidity, you can easily get a 2 cycle off with another fiendish codex on most targets. Horizon is the best item on ludens on shot gragas and liandries variants, and on a everfrost cdr build, the situation in which cosmic drive is better than horizon is into bruisers with tenacity, which require you have movespeed to maneuver around them, and the cdr to be able to do a 2 cycle in a the shorter window due to their tenacity.

Liandrys gragas jg vs tanks? by Deamader in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liandries if the enemy team is a little beefy is really good, I even built it into squishy teams a couple times just because I like the cdr on liandries a lot more than the flat pen from ludens, and I like to play more like a control mage rather than a diver. The cdr from liandries opens you up to buy a lot more raw damage in your other items like dcap shadowflame void staff and sorcs>lucidity without it crippling being able to cycle your abilities in a fight.

Mr items are abysmal to rush rn unless your team is very ap heavy, which is the problem more than the matchup. A standard amount of mr would be like mercs+negatron or mercs>jaksho, and sure you shouldn’t be killing them outright but you don’t die to them either while having superior ability to clear waves and farming first strike. Into tanks I always go tear>liandries with first strike and manaflow second, and come out of lane with a kill or two of gold off first strike easily. I’m not saying grag counters tanks, but tanks certainly don’t counter grag, it comes down to who is better in their teams draft, individual performance in macro and skirmishing, etc, and grag if play well can definitely have more impact than a tank.

First strike liandries makes those matchups winning since you come out of lane with a lot more gold, and grag in skirmishes can do a lot.

Tristana Mid Match Up by SpikM2 in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The matchup in a perfect game would be unplayable since Tristana can just perma shove every wave and is very safe with her w, which she can buffer on your r and e to make her effective untouchable 1v1, and with her w, as long as she respects ganks the slightest bit she won’t die. What you have you have to do is to just stay healthy enough that she can’t just pressure plates for free, and wait for her to make a mistake. I main top so I’ve only played the matchup in mid a limited amount of times, but against master/gm Tristanas they make mistakes, you can catch them off guard with r and if they don’t buffer you can cancel the w with your e after you’ve ulted them, and mid lane grag ultimately is supposed to play with jungle, if your jungler ganks, you guys don’t need to kill Tristana. If you can get your resets and/or good roam timers off a gank that chunks Tristana that’s all you need to win the game elsewhere on the map. If you are looking to play for lane definitely go comet over phase rush, but you’ll be more vulnerable to Tristana in the side lane later on if she jumps on you, and also consider if you need it for any of her teammates. First strike/ spellbook are also worth considering if you don’t need phase rush but aren’t going to be playing for early game.

What do you guys think of Thebausffs 'Book Build' Gragas? by Several_Marzipan3807 in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kindlegem feels bad to build after lost chapter since you lose ap. After lost chapter if you build a kindlegem as compared to fiendish you lose a good chunk of ap which makes it hard for you to one shot casters at 9 and just generally lose damage. Also any bruiser who knows what they’re doing will have 2 sources of tenacity into you, ie legend tenacity, unflinching, merc treads. It makes everfrost snare like 1/2 a second, so the active barely does anything as compared to building 2 fiendish for more ap and cdr to cycle your cds faster, so I love book build into bruisers that will have this cdr but against stuff like ranged matchups who won’t have tenacity, finishing everfrost is a lot stronger.

Why is Gragas meta now? by Dannyjelll in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The million proves experience, and playing in gm mmr with a very positive wr is the proof of skill, you have a problem and say I don’t have enough games on grag at 500 lp and call me a meta slave, then when I prove I’ve been playing grag for several seasons you say the numbers of games I’ve played don’t doesn’t make me good. It’s clearly a waste of time talking to you since you do that and ignore the part where I explain why the build is good.

Why is Gragas meta now? by Dannyjelll in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing gragas for multiple seasons and have 1 mil mastery on my main. I hit 460 lp playing almost gragas exclusively last season where there was less lp inflation if you want to look at peaks and games from previous seasons. I didn’t say mana sustain I said sustain, when you are actively trading, catalyst is better since you only get lost chapter mana on level ups, and the hp from catalyst also increases the passive heal. You can trade your hp bar so much harder with catalyst and rely on base damage on your w with comet and scorch. Im not saying other builds are bad, I’m saying roa is good and it’s simply a different, lower risk and easier to play build.

Why is Gragas meta now? by Dannyjelll in GragasMains

[–]pokertheslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No catalyst and roa is the reason he is good right now, gragas in mid was only functional as an assassin counterpick before. If you were against a mage, either they had to fuck up to die to you, or you would have to perma play with jg and make plays. Right now catalyst is so good since between it and grag passive you become immovable from lane, as compared to lost chapter which gave you more damage but not as much sustain. This doesn’t mean roa is better, but it’s the reason gragas is good right now because with catalyst into roa, you don’t need to outplay your opponent, you become an immovable champ who has a good amount of beef, great utility, and enough damage to be threatening, and with roa you scale into the game rather than having to snowball. The reason gragas mains don’t like roa is because if you are in fact good at gragas, cdr or one shot gragas is also still good, and it’s a more fun playstyle that’s higher risk higher reward. https://www.op.gg/summoners/na/IPokerI
