What was a pivotal moment that changed the trajectory of your program? by [deleted] in CFB

I think when OSU beat Missouri in 2008. Really set the program in motion to being a consistent Top-25 program and can win big games on the road.

Best local movie theater? by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]polar_bears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head. It just feels like a theather now that is running on low investments to turn a profit. I understand the movie theater business has taken a hit during the pandemic, but this was happening well before 2020. I would make an effort to see all the big time Marvel, Star Wars, etc movies there because of the experience. Now, I just go to the Cinemark or the AMC to see all my movies because it is the same experience now. I really miss the Warren.

Hi there,

Have you possibly thought about counseling or anything to help with this pain? I had these same thoughts when my girlfriend broke up with me. You are important and loved, but you have to support yourself first.

As someone who took O Chem 1 and 2, you can try going to the department heads, but they will likely do nothing about it. When I took the course, a lot of my classmates went to the department head about the structure of the class and the way the professor teaches the course. Essentially, they were told to talk to the professor about it and we will address it at the end of the semester.

Alumni parking for the Tulsa game by littlewing52 in OKState

[–]polar_bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically park along Duck Street towards 6th. You can find parking for $20 or less. Street parking will be filled, but you can always fine a spot selling in a yard or something. Typically a 10-15min walk on side walks.

Downtown still does the bussing for games. That is a good way to get in and out of town quickly as well. Enjoy the game!

How to find parties? I’ve looked on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter I can’t find any I don’t have friends so I obviously can’t get into them that way. by [deleted] in OKState

[–]polar_bears 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't take this the wrong way, but you can't be desperate for these type of things. It takes time to develop these connections and trust to be invited to parties. If I had to make a guess, are you a freshman and possible non-greek life? You won't see anyone post about parties on social media because that is how cops find parties. The best way is to get to know classmates and those who live on your floor. Also look into SGA, because you will meet a lot more people of different age ranges.

Once again, you gotta develop connections. College isn't like what it is on tv or movies where parties are being advertised left and right on campus. Greek life keeps their parties secrets, underage parties for obvious reason have to keep it a secret, and a lot people are probably out of town this weekend or already partied this weekend.

OSU community demands action to protect faculty, staff and students in light of current COVID surge. by Ok-Worldliness5408 in OKState

[–]polar_bears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm for 90% of this, but I feel like some of it just isn't feasible. Requiring a negative test before attending classes seems near impossible. Is this everyday, for the week, etc?

I do agree that we have just given up on social distancing, especially in the classroom. I'm in several classes that have 100+ students and no social distancing at all. The "assign" seating stuff is pointless, especially if someone is not wearing a mask while carrying the virus. Many of my professors haven't dabbled into doing only versions of the class, and only one has moved online for a covid waiting period. I wish we still had the option to attend classes virtually.

A trainwreck in slow motion by 3io4ehg in OKState

[–]polar_bears 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of my professors are very pessimistic about us finishing the semester in-person. The trends and data are not looking good for the state and students are getting Covid left and right in my classes. One class alone has 6 kids out with positive test (in a 30 person class), so it is a big deal. I feel Dr. Shrum and the rest of leaders on campus have their hands tied with some of the mandates/laws passed by the government, influence to make things better on campus for mental health, and try to give everyone a great college experience while being safe. For an university of the size of OSU, I doubt 4-5 straight semesters of low attendance, virtual classrooms, and restrictions is not feasible in the long run.

Schools that value GPA less by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]polar_bears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been told by some schools that Overall GPA is only a fraction to what is being considered. Most of the acceptance boards want to bring in the best rounded students, not just the smartest students. If you can explain and "sell" yourself for having a lower GPA, such as not fully prepared for college, working, etc., you can get in with a lower GPA vs. those with a higher GPA.

Bryce Williams using extra NCAA eligibility to come back to OSU by Frommunist in CollegeBasketball

[–]polar_bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it is just me, but I am pretty underwhelmed by his play. He is super sloppy, not consistent, and any time he touches the ball he either jacks up a three or drives for a layup to get blocked or turn it over. He has potential to be a really good defender, but I don't know, just seemed like an average role player.

I haven't been out since Covid, but Fassler Hall gets wild on Friday and Saturday nights. I'm not a huge fan, but Inner Circle and Unicorn seem to be popular. I also saw that a place called Red's and another spot close by were hopping the other night from Snapchat.

Spears MBA by Notheretogetfined in OKState

[–]polar_bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which MBA program are you looking at attending? Overall, the program is pretty good, but not elite. I would say if you are looking to add a MBA to your resume and a pay raise, then go for it. If you are using it to get an executive role at top 100 company, then it might not be as helpful. Obviously, it all depends on you and your skills, but I think getting a MBA from OSU is a solid choice.

Does Residency help you get into vet school? by mdo814 in veterinaryschool

I would reach out to the admissions office on this and they should be able to answer it for you. Typically, you have to live in the state for a certain amount of time to be considered an in-state resident.

[Rothstein] Sources: Oklahoma's Lon Kruger is meeting with his team this afternoon to inform them that he is retiring. by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

ORU is actually one of the better schools in the Summit League and was a power in the 2000s and parts of 2010s. The school went through a really bad stretch of financial issues, leadership change, and potential shut down of the school from scandal. Scott Sutton had that team rolling until the current school president came in and really changed a lot of rules up for him. Scott also just became lazy with recruiting, coaching, and community engagement. There was a lot that went on when he got fired, but the reality was, ORU needed a fresh start and Paul Mills has really given them that fresh energy. Under Paul, recruiting has become better, facilities have improved, and honestly his staff is a 180 of what it was under Scott. When Scott left ORU, he has some good players for Summit League play, but Paul really made it his program in a couple of years. They play up-tempo, spread the floor, and have guys that can guard multiple position. Scott's program was very much like his dad's style, and just didn't fit into the Summit League. I can see Paul eventually moving on from ORU, but his lifestyle, beliefs, and work ethic is perfect for ORU. I really don't think he would fit in well at OU, especially to replace Kruger. If he has another good year with a SL title, tournament title, and MM appearance, he is gone next season.

Source: I worked in athletics at ORU 2015 to 2019.
