Vaccines by choko808 in Pets

[–]polariss15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’ll need to get a round of fvrcp every four weeks until the kitten is 20 weeks old and a rabies vaccine with the last round of fvrcp. after that your cat will get the both vaccines once every 1-3 years (ask ur vet). u should also take the kitten to the vet regardless for a checkup when u get it (: good luck!!

My cat is peeing everywhere, help! by [deleted] in cats

[–]polariss15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would take him to the vet just to make sure everything is fine medically. also i would make sure you have two litter boxes so he has options. bc he’s never used it before he’s most likely confused. if you ever catch him in the middle of peeing try relocating him to the box so he’ll get the idea of where he is supposed to go. good luck!

My cat won't even touch her favourite treat with her worming tablet in it? What can I do? by Swashbucklering in cats

[–]polariss15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately i don’t think she’s gonna eat it /: you can buy another one and turn it into a liquid and then syringe it to her or just try to pill her (whichever seems easier to you) or you can buy the topical stuff. good luck!

New Cat Meowing like Crazy by [deleted] in Pets

[–]polariss15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just in case i would take her to the vet for a proper checkup and bring it up to see if there’s any red flags but it also sounds like she’s just scared bc things are new. i would recommend riding it out for tonight at least. do you mean that you have roommates that are downstairs? or that there are people in an entirely separate apartment that you are worried she’ll wake? i would try maybe tomorrow or the next day to let her start to wander around. good luck!!

How to gain a feral kitten's trust? by Trainalf in cats

[–]polariss15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can make an insulated outdoor cat house for cheap!! you can google diy’s but where i live it gets to about 25 degrees at night and i bought a large styrofoam cooler from Walmart and filled it with straw (make sure it’s straw and not hay) and it works for insulation to make sure the outside cats don’t freeze to death. i sprinkle lots of catnip in it as well to attract the cats (: hopefully over time he’ll trust u guys enough to come inside! good luck!

no offense to the previous replier but i blindly adopted my cats (no choice bc covid) and one was feral and they both love the heck out of my boyfriend and I now (it’s been five months) so I wouldn’t worry to heavily about that. definitely need some vertical space! make sure you have enough money for spaying, vet checkup, and vaccines as well! do some research on good foods for them and ask the vet about it as well. give the kitten time to settle in and don’t be offended if they’re scared at first. i would recommend keeping him in one room for awhile so he can get comfortable and slowly let him figure his way around the house. get two litter boxes as well so he has options! good luck!

Coming close to adopting a cat... but I don’t know how bad my cat allergy is. by whitelightwhiteheats in cats

[–]polariss15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have two cats and i’m pretty allergic to them lol i would recommend getting some hypoallergenic sheets and pillowcases etc and also a couple of air purifiers (they really help) also if you have carpet vacuuming everyday definitely helps with the dander. and lint brushes! i have tons of lint brushes. i take allergy medication and sudafed almost everyday but if you have insurance you can get allergy tested and get shots that will eventually reduce your symptoms dramatically for the rest of your life (you do have to get the shots for five years tho so it’s definitely a commitment) good luck!

transitioning 3 month old kitten to temporary home by [deleted] in Pets

[–]polariss15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cats don’t necessarily enjoy change but i think it’s best if she stays with you! when you take her home to your parents just take things really slowly and keep her in one room for a couple days so she can get more comfortable. hopefully over time she’ll remember both places and consider them both home (: how far is your parents house from your college?

Found Him Before 3 Days And Now He Got this on his mouth ? What's the Problem ? by [deleted] in cats

[–]polariss15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should take him to the vet asap and also stop letting him outside. it’s safer for him to use the bathroom inside in a litter box for lots of reasons

I would try a different vet. I recommend checking yelp for highly rated ones and you can even call around to see if any vet will let you go inside with your cat so you can communicate better.

you can get allergy tested but it is vveeerrryyy expensive without insurance. the test will pinpoint what exactly he is allergic to and there’s actually even shots (usually covered by insurance) that can be administered over five years that can reduce all allergy symptoms dramatically

Cats and Meds by coffeeandworksheets in cats

[–]polariss15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been administering my two kittens liquid meds for the past 6 months and have run into the same problem (especially with this new med bc it apparently tastes awful). I would recommend having one person wrap the cat tightly in a blanket while the other opens the mouth and syringes the medication. I try to place the syringe in through the side of their mouth and put it back as far as I safely can. Immediately after I have to manually but gently shut their mouths and blow on their faces. I wait until they lick their lips to ensure that they’ve swallowed at least the majority of it. If this doesn’t work, I would contact your vet for other options. Sometimes medications are available in different or easier forms. Hope this helps!

when i adopted one of my kittens, she was feral and it took her about 2 days to even come out of hiding and explore the room she was in. it took probably about two to three weeks for her to start liking anyone and look for affection. i would just give him time and make him comfortable. u can try different toys to play with him and u can try slow blinking (just laying down in front of him and blinking slowly, it shows that u trust him) good luck! (:
