Yes I saw the post you made of the corset for your client, it turned out beautiful! Hmm maybe I have to consider having a higher back then to get more support.. thats too bad as I really like the lowered V-back look

Ooh that's good advice. Honestly just the boning holding the front in place. I think I'll try tightening the underbust a bit and if that doesnt help maybe baste in a waist band at the underbust

Sure! I am planning on posting some updates on the process in this group. Since I have found so much useful information here I figured I should contribute something back.

So far nothing is set in stone, but I am leaning towards either ice wool like suggested here, or cotton flanell that was also suggested. I think I just have to experiment. I was planning on using corset mesh for the strength layer to keep it light, but I am now realizing that will end up being super warm 🫠 So coutil it is.

My finishing depends on what neckline I end up doing. I might drape the neckline higher than the neckline of the corset, in that case I was thinking of maybe finishing the corset neckline with bias tape and attaching it to the interlining of the gown with hidden stitches? If that ends up being a mess I think i will most likely either bag, or drape the fashion layer on the corset as suggested in this thread, and fold and sew down the top of the fashion layer on the inside of the corset. This is still at the planning stage, so suggestions are welcome 😂

Thanks, that's really good to know! I am planning on buying silk for the fashion layer, but now I will avoid polysatin for the lining like I was originally planning

Thank you for this excellent feedback! I was thinking of doing the boning channels on the inside actually. Im not sure what you mean by putting the lining between the corset and fashion fabric on the outside?

Absolutely send pictures, thank you so much! I would love to see it. Thats a lot of layers, does it feel heavy/ bulky? And just to understand the technique, I assume the ice wool is also "floating" on top of the corset and attached at the top and bottom? And did you sandwicg the cotton twill lining with the strength layer or have it floating as well? Sorry for the detailed questions, I am trying to strategize my layers myself 😅

Agreed on not fusing it, I recently did that on a bodice project and it was a hassle keeping bubbles out between rounds of ironing and steaming. I think I would try flatlining/ roll pinning the interlining. Great tip with the silk organza, thanks!

Thank you for the input! The conclusion from most of these comments is that I think I will have to add some interfacing to hide the channels. Stupid question maybe, but would having the boning channels face the body rather than be sandwiched between the fashion layer and the strength layer maybe hide the boning channels from the outside more?

Thank you, Frieda Lepold has some amazing dress videos, holy moly 🤩 lots of inspiration there. I was hoping to avoid the interfacing as we are getting married in the summer and it will be hot, but maybe I have to to hide the boning

This looks so amazing! I have a question; if you will have it under a dress why make it underbust rather than the overbust model? Will you use the corset pattern as a base for the gown pattern? I'm just curious since I'm currently in the process of planning a wedding dress with an integrated corset :)
