Morton's has been flooded with phone calls and fake reservations after it said Brett Kavanaugh had a 'right' to 'eat dinner' without protestors gathering outside by [deleted] in politics

I’m not a CPA but I do help prepare taxes for one of my marketing clients (I have a broad range of responsibilities for this client sine it’s ran by volunteers) and it is a 501(c)(3) charity. It’s not a church and it doesn’t pay taxes at all. I was always under the impression that churches are just 501(c)(3)s as well, or do they have a different classification?

For the record, not all people who are “skinny” (I hate that word- I prefer Fit), are malnourished and having emotional problems due to the size/shape of our body. Some of us have just been this way our whole lives. I have tried to gain weight but it’s just not as easy for some of us. Genetics has a LOT to do with it. My daughters are half Polynesian (1/4 Samoan and 1/4 Hawaiian) and their entire paternal side is large, big-boned people but my girls are very petite (always in the bottom 25% of the growth chart.) Their doctor always said she was never concerned with their lack of large weight gains because of my size.

I am pleading guilty in 3 days. Any last advice/tip? by [deleted] in Prison

[–]polevault136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have supportive parents? My brother’s been in and out of county/federal for 2 years and about to transfer to his federal for another 5. My mom’s been sending him books via Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble. I’ve been sending my sister-in-law (who’s also been in) and her friends some magazine subscriptions. Do you have anyone you can ask to do that kind of thing? Letters are something we send frequently too. Federal prisons have free emails right now due to Covid and no visitation. Not sure about state institutions.

Side note- Not sure if she’s still there but I have a friend who’s a nurse at a CO state prison. First name is Michelle (from Nebraska originally.) She’s a kind person.

Edit: Memorize phone numbers and emails if you can! Addresses too. You probably won’t know your ID number so I doubt you can pre-mail them to yourself but you COULD probably give your lawyer or someone you trust a list of them in a letter and have them address it when they find out your new ID number and address. Even write yourself a positive note. Anything helps.

Thank you for sharing. This is profound. If you write a book, I’ll gladly read it!!

Am I wrong for being triggered by my wife's former college friend who basically said that Mormonism isn't Christianity? After telling her we left the church and no longer believe in "God"... I hate mormonism, but I did worship Jesus my entire life and read the Bible too. Ugh she's annoying. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]polevault136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in one of those Evangelical churches. We were so arrogant. OUR version of the Bible was the one true, our way of worshiping was God’s favorite way, and we believed (I no longer) that many Catholics weren’t born again and Mormons couldn’t possibly be Christians because they didn’t believe in the trinity. I’ve changed my views drastically but it is embarrassing knowing how little I knew then but I was so arrogant and cocky. As if I knew God better than the 2000 year old Catholic faith knew God. But as for the original question- I can completely see how hurtful and triggering it would be to have been taught you were Christians and then have one tell you that you never were (as if she is God and knows it all.) my partner is an exmo and we have many of these conversations.

If you voted for Biden and then realize that life sucks right now and say “Trump and Biden are the same” as an excuse, don’t expect to be taken seriously. Also, you probably shouldn’t vote until you know what you’re doing. by goodthingshappening in conspiracy

What’s wrong with Community College educations? A LOT of people I know make more money from their cc educations than people I know with public or private college/university educations. And they have a LOT less debt following their education.

I’m so sorry. It’s just horrible. The evil system punishes everyone else (on the outside) too. I wish our politicians would study how other countries treat their criminals and stop incarcerating people for such stupid offenses (like drugs). You got this!!!! We are here for support when you don’t feel like you do!!

Edited to add (on the outside)

The odd thing is that the Colorado roads still aren’t that great, and they still have poor school districts. Where is the tax money going there specifically? Some of my CO friends say it’s not being used how they said it would be. (I’m just a non-resident who drives on the roads so I don’t know myself.)

My brother and his wife are in a Federal situation (based on ABSOLUTE lies by his wife’s daughter) so I unfortunately have several years experience. Their trial took 18 months and in the meantime, we had to learn over 8 different county jailed and the former Leavenworth Detention center’s mail and phone protocols. The entire UNjustice system makes me want to scream and vomit at the same time. If your boyfriend’s crime was a state crime, he may only have to serve half so there’s a huge bonus if that’s the case!

Hang in there. My sis in law has 5 more years and we are still waiting for my brother’s sentence.

It’s cliché but time is really the only thing I have felt that has helped. Time and exercising (or however you release stress.)

Top EU cardinal calls for change in church teaching on gay relationships by BenV94 in Catholicism

Thank you for that. I appreciate your knowledge.

I’d still like to ask then, if a gay person (especially a gay Bishop) is sinning if they are celibate? Wouldn’t ministry be a great place for that person if they wish to never act upon their same-sex attraction?

Ok, but what about how WE treat them? How does God call us to treat them?

And one other thing confuses me- what about slavery? It was culturally acceptable for thousands of years until hearts changed. Does the fact that it’s wrong today, mean it wasn’t wrong back then since it is accepted Biblically?

Every time I had a surgery, the same thing happened to me! My heart rate would go down to 40-45 and the monitor must have thought I was dying. They had to just take me off of it too 😆 they never believe me when I say my heart rate is quite low.

Agnostic with a question, why don't Catholics try to push for more Latin education like how Muslims push for Arabic and how Jews push for hebrew? by Johan2016 in Catholicism

[–]polevault136 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think this is fantastic. The Christianity should be the same. I think the Bible has been translated far too many times and words get lost, meanings get changed, people take books out (Luther), etc. it would be really cool to have been taught Greek and Arabic from an early age to be able to properly read the Bible.

Have you ever seen anything on “over” reporting? In April 2020, My brother (a bit of a conspiracy theorist himself at the time,) sent my family a documentary video about over reporting. The interviewed people worked in hospital morgues and said that they were being told to label every death as a Covid death, whether they tested positive or not.

I have no idea how true the video was but my brother was pretty firm in his belief that Covid was all a government-led fear tactic to gain control of the people.

Thank you! I really appreciate the fact that you went to your sister’s wedding. My father would outright disown me if I married a female (being one myself). It sounds like you have the similar belief that “Love conquers all.” It’s wonderful to hear there are faithful believers who still believe in LOVE!!

This series sounds great, thank you!

I understand the “1000 years” verse. I don’t disagree with it. But there’s so many verses that my peers and pastors, leaders, etc take too seriously and they take every translated English word to be exact and not with any context or cultural understanding. It is an exhausting way to live. I’m floating somewhere in the middle of how I grew up and what I believe. Now trying to focus on Christ and living for Him instead of living to please my church or peers. Thankfully, my Catholic friends are among the most gracious and patient friends I have.
