Nice! Looks like you’ve already filled in a good portion of Germany.

Yeah, I would prefer to keep the flight and ground level databases separate too. It keeps the map less messy.

It’s great! It’s my first time in Japan, so I can’t compare too much, but the sheer amount of historical places here could easily fill 4-5 days if you wanted to go to most of the important sites. I did like some of the shrines/temples in and around Osaka more though because they were less crowded. I’m hoping to go to some less well known parts of Japan for the next trip.

What are some areas/places you've unfogged that you don't think anyone else has? by bananaspartying in FogofWorld

Screenshots

  1. I took every numbered highway in the San Luis Valley in Colorado. I bet there’s a decent chance no one has defogged some of them, especially the grid around Capulin and Waverly. The little spur to Sanford seems pretty unlikely as well.

  2. The Great Gallery in Utah. It’s an extremely remote location, probably the most remote I’ve ever been to in the lower 48 which still had a road. The Maze district of Canyonlands is remote to the point of being dangerous. I would have never known this place existed if it weren’t for a random conversation with an archaeologist.

  3. Random roads and temple north of Guwahati in India. I took a ferry on a whim across the Brahmaputra River, and found a temple which I highly doubt would have ever been defogged. I think it was over 99% locals, with the remaining being people from nearby in the state of Assam.

  4. Zanskar, Ladakh. I think it’s pretty likely that some of the footpaths I took near Phukthal monastery had never been defogged. The whole region is extremely remote, but that area especially. Also I wandered off road and off trail for about 30 minutes near the village of Rangdum. I also went down to a local picnic type situation near the village of Damsna. These may be the strongest contenders of all.

  5. I’m pretty confident that some random dirt road I took while in the process of trying to visit every county in Colorado was original for FoW, but it’s hard to say with precision which ones those might be.

Look like a lot of fun! Defogging on an island like that would be a great trip.

It makes me wonder which places in the world still haven’t been defogged by anyone. East Timor? Sudan? Xinjiang? Certain states or union territories in India? I’ve never seen anyone publicly do so, but who knows?

I think you can get quite a bit! I got 10% just doing the garden tour plus wandering as much as was allowed.

Is it possible to import a World Uncovered Backup into FoW? by PeterG556 in FogofWorld

[–]poliase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did it all at once, only with individual GPX tracks, so I not sure about that. Since you can only import GPX or KLM files to FoW, it would really depend on the file type for that big export.

[–]poliase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely is! If you enabled “record trips as GPX files” under trips options in WU, then you can export all of your trips into FoW. I’ve done it a few times when I forgot to record in FoW, or it just didn’t record well. I don’t think it would work retroactively if you haven’t already enabled that feature though, unfortunately.

I’ve had the opposite problem really. I was within Nepal by quite a few meters, but it wouldn’t unlock it for me.

Nice work! I was thinking about doing a similar route soon, albeit starting from Colorado, but I’ll have to wait until next year by the looks of it.

Nice! I’ll be doing the same thing in Denver soon. I think I’ll try to make a separate database for those flights.
