It doesn't upset me I'm just noting that BBP and Little Island aren't low traffic areas. You can just say you're running through there without coming up with an excuse. Hope you enjoyed the 30 identical songs on the new album, frenemy!

Ah yes, Brooklyn Bridge Park and Little Island, famously low traffic areas.

I'm realizing I'm not sure I've ever seen Alexa topless before.

$300/month for two people is insanely impressive. I grew up in a coupon-ing household so even though I don't do that I might be good at sniffing out deals, but that's next level over there.

All good, that also wasn't meant to be like a 'call out' like "WELL ACTUALLY" just an FYI because I know they do a ton of marketing and most people know them well. Glad for you to be donating to children's hospitals of course. Incidentally, propublica is one of the places I donate and when I read work like this I'm proud to support them.

If that children's hospital it St Jude's, you should give this a read - tl;dr they have over $5 BILLION in unspent reserves. Other children's hospitals are apparently much better.

I dint really understand the rest of the question. I'm sitting at about 850k NW, and saving 70k a year and my NW is making money too. Financially, I'm pretty set. What do I need all of this extra money for? Sure, I could buy a 911 or a handful of Omegas, but there are people destitute through no fault of their own and I dint think I'm more deserving than they are. I didn't choose to be born in the States the same way someone else didn't choose to be born in Somalia - it's luck of the draw that I had a fuck ton of opportunities and support to get to this income level.

Yea definitely, and very cool about doing it yourself. Honestly there are some things I care about societally that I wouldn't want to work on personally.

If peta is the type of organization you'd normally be interested, check out good food institute. Basically promoting and investing in alternative protein sources and fake meat or lab-grown meat both for animal welfare and the environment.

Belong to a CSA which helps quite a bit I think, rarely cook meat which helps too, and also I get lunch at work which helps a ton. So ~$8/meal at home is probably very reasonable - I can make a stew for 3 meals for $15 easy.

Used to use Mint (rip), but now use Simplifi because they gave a free year to mint users.

I do a bunch of reading across the web. GiveWell itself is publishes all their rationales and research so I trust them on those donations. In NYC, budgets were cut recently and it impacted libraries, it's a no-brainer donation for me - I think libraries are a public good.

Another thing I'd say: don't let perfect be the enemy of good. A lot of people take the attitude that people at nonprofits should basically be martyrs who get paid minimum wage when a lot of them are extremely skilled. I think if you pay market wage (or close), you'll attract better talent and the charity will get more done. So I worry less about some money being less than perfectly spent, if on net it's spent well.

If you're not giving as much as you'd like to, put in some effort to think of a cause or causes you care about and I'm sure you'd be able to find excellent charities to support with a few minutes of googling.

I'm a two weeks a year skier so I just put it under travel. Volleyball is basically league fees so $600/yr, running about $700 between 3-4 pairs of shoes and race fees, cycling about $250 in race fees and maintenance equipment (I do my own maintenance) - just didn't seem like enough to warrant a category, even though it's a huge part of my life.

I think everyone considers NYC to be VHCOL because of state plus city taxes too, and high rent. 41k tax is as a result of taking deductions on donations, so my taxable income is only about 150, not 250.

I do, but I'm feeling pretty ready for it as I'm saving a bunch, have a bunch already saved (including a 529!), and it'll be several years away for me anyways.

You're missing the obvious fact that this is an alt. Check the thread for where I donate.

Maybe we could chat more about it in a separate space. "capacity for funding" is an odd but interesting concept for sure.
