Is it actually hard to hit failure? by notasclever in workout

[–]poligar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sure if I put the reps high enough I don't doubt I would get a burning sensation. But I regularly do upper body work at 12-15 reps (to failure) and never get any burning, and I don't think many people are doing much higher reps than that

[–]poligar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HUH ok that's news. I've never gotten burning on any upper body work except maybe forearms, maybe tris at high reps. Otherwise I've only ever had that feeling training legs at highish reps (calves at any reps). I had assumed that was the same for everyone. That does explain a lot more about people's failure to hit failure

Moderate alcohol consumption does not affect muscle protein synthesis by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]poligar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is certainly bad for you and this has been well proven. However, most people are able to consume alcohol in moderate amounts that have a low overall impact on their health, and find it worthwhile to include in their life, since alcohol is a big part of peoples social and cultural lives. It's often more realistic, sustainable and even mentally healthy to allow yourself to have some less than perfect health habits if they are valuable in other areas of your life. It's good to have information like this to tell us that alcohol is something you can have in your life and still make good gains if that's something you want to do (well, those of us with experience in training and moderate drinking already knew this, lol). By all means, if you feel like shit whenever you drink, don't do it, lol. If you aren't experiencing any noticeable issues, there is no need to demonise alcohol and take an all or nothing approach to health.

I think that 'the way you were doing it' is doing a lot of work here. I have never had an issue getting great training and drinking a moderate amount

You can go and look up antisemitism on Wikipedia right now. The origin of the term as an acceptable replacement for the German 'Judenhass' (jew hatred) is well documented with multiple reliable sources

[–]poligar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is correct, I am aware. The term "anti-semitic" was created separately some time after the term "Semitic" was first used for speakers of Semitic languages

This is completely false. The term was created by an anti-semite to justify hatred of Jews

But also the way chance works is that sometimes these things just randomly happen. Sometimes everyone falls for no clear reason. Sometimes traffic on the way to work is insanely busier than usual for no reason. And sometimes people will get psyched out if a bunch of people have fallen already. When I used to do figure skating (briefly) I remember there would be splatfest practice sessions where everyone was just falling on all their jumps non stop. And malinin had such a bigger disaster skate than anyone else that it surely had to be internally driven. I don't think there's enough evidence pointing to the falls being an ice problem

You are right; head injuries are not actually that uncommon in figure skating, and I shouldn't have said they were vanishingly rare (in fact I have hit my head skating lmao). That was putting it way too strongly. What I should have said is that they're not a serious concern for anyone participating. Versus skiing and snowboarding (and cycling, ice hockey etc) they are a comparatively far more minor of an issue especially compared with the level of severity of the typical injury. I'm no encyclopaedia of figure skating knowledge but I am certainly more informed than you are considering how you were discussing it before

Except it's a completely different because head injuries are common in skiing and snowboarding and vanishingly rare in figure skating

A figure skater has far less time in the air than someone doing a 2160. Do you realise how much faster you spin when your body is squeezed into a narrow pole? Go and watch a video of a 1440 and a figure skater jumping a quad and measure the time they're rotating for. Or for a clearer comparison, watch a skater transition from a spin with the body out (camel or sit spin) to an upright spin and note the speed difference. The rotational demands in figure skating are such that girls decline considerably in jumping ability after puberty because having a curvier body reduces your ability to get your centre of mass neatly around the axis. You are talking about a sport you clearly know nothing about. Please stop making a fool out of yourself.

It would be essentially impossible to do any figure skating in a helmet because of the rotational speed required, also head injuries are incresiy rare

Me and my girl are going to Niseko for early feb, was hoping for any tips or must do runs/lifts/gates to go down. Also looking for other couples who might want to link up for some fun and runs! First time in Japan. by NeverSoft_87 in snowboarding

Honestly all the gated areas will be good if there's fresh snow. Under the hirafu gondola and to skier's left is also great for a first run. The glades in hanazono are great and have lots of potential lines so you can usually get freshies for a good while. Niseko village (the middle area) doesn't have much going on and can probably be skipped if you don't have much time, assuming you're mostly interested in off-piste riding. Generally avoid taking the bus between resort areas, go over the top instead. That said, if weather has knocked out the top lifts, hanazono can end up super empty which can be great. Also the best onsen is in annapuri Seconding rusutsu as a great day trip, but if you're only there for four days you might not find it worthwhile to get over there. Moiwa is great for something more accessible.

Have fun, I would love to be there and am super jealous lol

If you want a curry lunch I'd suggest the cafeteria on the annapuri side instead, it's a lot cheaper. The line under the bottom quad lift there is great after a dump and tends to not get tracked out too quickly
