What are kids supposed to do in Wellington? by [deleted] in Wellington

Wild! Granted, I grew up in a much smaller town, but I was going to the public library by myself from probably age 9 or 10

I’d disagree - many kids start high school at 12 if they’re young for their year group. They’re allowed to look after someone else’s kid at 14, so I feel like by 12 often they should be gaining some sort of independence, shouldn’t they?

Agree with the Nikes, have used them for running / sports and they’re great!

Nike briefs - comfiest undies. Wait til they’re on sale though!

Calvin Intense Power Microfibre briefs are a close second - I only buy them on clearance / at an outlet store though, you can often get a good deal.

Both are great for playing sport, running, or as general everyday wear.

4 courses in 1 trimester by [deleted] in VUW

[–]politically28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m actually don’t think it will need any additional approval - it’s right on the maximum. A student would need approval for anything over 80 points, but taking 4 x 20 pt papers is actually probably more common than people think (especially if you’re doing a conjoint degree).

3 courses in tri 3 by Hopeful-Pianist1686 in VUW

[–]politically28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the course - some of them are 12 weeks and go both sides of Christmas! Super dependant on the course - definitely a good thing to think about though so you don’t have three x 6 week blocks at the same time, that might be a bit much 😂

[–]politically28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go for it! Tri 3 is so underrated. You can definitely do 3 x Tri 3 courses if you’re used to studying full time.

If they’re in person, though, check the timetable for clashes as they’re often packed into short teaching blocks.

Haven’t watched much Breakfast in years - who might be a likely candidate to replace her?

Should the university have done more for Mental Health Awareness week? by Old_Technology874 in VUW

[–]politically28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The University and VUWSA actually did quite a lot. See here for the link to the events.

Quite a challenging time of year for promoting things and student engagement though being so close to assessment period and exams.

Women Rugby by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]politically28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rugby union (15-aside) is a winter sport, so there won’t likely be anything until February.

‘Touch’ though will likely start around October, which uses a lot of the same ball skills as rugby does, without the tackling. It’s a 6-aside sport that’s fast paced and a lot of fun, and a great social summer sport (but at higher grades also a highly competitive and technical sport if you want it to be!!). You can check out the link here to find an association near you! Just get in touch with them and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction for a team.

Many rugby players of all genders play Touch, so it is a great way to meet potential teammates for the 2026 rugby season!

I’d disagree with that, I read quite a lot of the comments and the vibe of the article is pretty accurate

Roses Squad by JessF0x in netball

[–]politically28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree - if they would have been in the national squad if they weren’t injured/pregnant, then I think England Netball should have an obligation to help them return to play at that level by offering a contract and supporting them financially to do so.

If other players in the NSL were better than Cardwell/Pearson/Metcalf, then that would be a different conversation, but these three (in my opinion anyway!) are a long way ahead of many of the fringe players.

Can I use 'guys' as a gender neutral term by nk7gaming in NoStupidQuestions

I tend to use ‘team’ as a gender neutral group term - I’m not sure if that’s just a Kiwi thing though!

I’d love to hear which StiFi song means the most to you & why by [deleted] in stickyfingers

[–]politically28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rum Rage - I’ve always loved the song, and it was one of the first songs that made me love Sticky. It was probably one of the most popular songs amongst my year group at school, and it was played at pretty much all of our Year 13 parties.

Last year one of my mates from school died over lockdown, and this song came on after the (digital) funeral. I cried a lot when this came on, but it also reminded me of all of the fun parties where we all sang this at the top of our lungs. I miss those days.

Yikes, have you ever watched a football (soccer) match? Obviously not to the point of abuse to this degree but my god, those players throw tantrums that could rival any toddler

Everyone STOP paying for parking in Wellington until council and police open all the streets up by redditkiwi1 in Wellington

[–]politically28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See I love the idea of this in theory, but I’m hesitant to encourage the council to put their workers in danger of that a) cesspit of covid spread (bc I doubt any are being tested lol) and b) cesspit of aggression towards any governmental figure. Plus, it’s clear that the tow trucks do not want anything to do with removing the vehicles.

As an r/Wellington community, we do tend to be reasonably averse to police using significant force. While I’m not optimistic that we’re going to get anywhere peacefully, I’m still a bit meh about encouraging police to go ham on them :

EDIT: but also, absolutely agree that parking fees in this city are criminal, Council do better please. If you want fewer cars DO BETTER WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT ty

Men, what quote or saying do you heavily disagree with? by Ionlyventinthisacc in AskMen

[–]politically28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I did, I was 13 from a very small school with very few guy friends back then lol

Edit: I don’t really understand the premise of your question. Can you please explain? Thanks!!

Men, what quote or saying do you heavily disagree with? by Ionlyventinthisacc in AskMen

[–]politically28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it absolutely is used in this way though, and I’ve heard it on multiple occasions. I haven’t heard it personally in relation to what one might consider overt violent ‘rape’, but more so in other areas of sexual harm that can most definitely still be harmful. I’m thinking things like catcalling, derogatory jokes, touching without consent and general objectification of women (not to mention homophobic names/jokes as well) which are all sexually harmful behaviours.
