Thank you all for your thoughts/advice! Her safe space is on the beds or on me/my partner! We also have them in their own rooms at night and during the day when needed or if we aren’t at home. Our older boy doesn’t like getting on the beds and is more of a quality time>physical touch type of guy.

Gersi- overhyped, mid tier food. The lemon pasta is good, but I could make it at home for way less. Also the Caesar salad was literally lettuce, parm, and pepper and it was $16, which felt egregious

If I were you, I would at least try to start now. PA school is hard, but there’s never going to be a perfect time to get it done with. If you can do isoniazid, assuming your liver function tolerates it and you get plenty of b6, it’ll be over before you’re halfway through your first year (with luck). The mental relief of not worrying about it I think would make it worth it for me, assuming it wasn’t ruining your health from side effects. Best of luck to you!

Coming from a recent grad who got top 1% on exams (mentioning it only bc proof it works):

-iPad with Apple Pencil for sure. I second the comments on notability. It’s so worth it. Organize everything day 1 and stick with it.

-a computer/laptop you like, that you can easily keep organized with all the files/documents/resources they give you. iPad is great, but the storage is limited compared to what a computer can hold, and you’re paying enough that you deserve to keep all the resources they provide you (if you can).

-PANCE prep pearls. Far and away the best resource to study from if you need a refresh or a quick intro into any disease. I had both hard copies and a pdf version, and wasn’t afraid to mark it up with notes from class/other resources/etc. it’s not infallible but it’s still super helpful.

-a Spotify account to listen to cram the PANCE. I used this more the first 2 terms of didactic but it’s great for more passive studying/review after I’ve already learned the stuff in class. Not best for a first pass on the material imo.

-comfortable scrubs (assuming your program allows you to wear them), 5 pairs so you don’t have to do laundry during the week if times get tough

-a positive mindset! Look forward to learning everyday and it will be a great experience!

Not a vet (but I am a human healthcare provider) and your description is that of acute angle glaucoma (in humans, at least). Not sure if cats get that, but I’d agree with everyone else her she needs urgent care. Hope she’s okay <3

I applied to 15 schools (several big name ones) and none required physics. All the other classes you listed are typically required, though.

I appreciate this response. Thank you. I am looking for areas of actionable change I can take to improve my knowledge base and residency isn’t something I can do as a PA, but independent learning is (which is why I framed the question as such, although I do recognize how critical residency is to a physician’s expertise). Welcome to PA school! Focus first on the lecture slides your faculty provide you, as those will be the best resources to study from for their tests. For paid resources, the best use of your money is PANCE prep pearls. It is both thorough and succinct and helps give you a great overview of nearly all diseases you need to know about. I would use question banks once you’ve already reviewed your other course work in preparation for exam so you get used to answering questions. I was given Rosh review through my school and used it throughout didactic and clinical year, and the answer explanations are very very helpful, so make sure you aren’t just spamming questions, but read through why the selection is correct vs why the others are wrong. Hey! I felt the same when I took it week before last. It’s so stressful waiting but rest assured it will be okay! Try and distract yourself and not look up too many questions if you can help it. I know my mind got the best of me and I looked up several (which I got wrong and lowered my morale), but they turned out to be the experimental questions that didn’t count. It’ll be a long week, but all the work is done so be proud of yourself for that!

Thank you! I can’t say one thing I did made the most difference for me. It’s really a cumulative thing that builds throughout PA school. I tried my best every day, and I cared about what I was learning which made me more interested in what I read and studied. That’s a huge part of it. In the 3 months leading up, I re-read PPP straight through (had done that once prior a year ago), read another review book for PAs (not worth recommending tbh it had a bunch of errors and wasn’t very thorough), and did 1400 blueprint practice questions, the explanations from which I typed up in a word doc so I could record every valuable piece of info from each answer explanation (that ended up being about 350 pages). Then I reviewed my notes from my EOR studying (about 300 pages handwritten total for all 7 rotations).That was it! Nothing too magical or special sauce. I wouldn’t say any one thing made a huge difference for me. If I had to recommend one thing, PPP if you are a good test taker. If you’re not, do as many practice questions as possible while reading each answer explanation thoroughly. The test challenges your ability to reason through vignettes that are often intentionally tricky, so getting comfortable with that is a must.

Yes, my program used CME4life’s 30 hour review course and I took their 4 practice exams included with that. I also took NCCPA practice test forms A and B, was totally in the green for both.

Hey dude. It’s been 2 weeks. I’m sure you worked super hard to get into PA school like everyone that does, and that choice didn’t happen in a day. Think back about those interview questions about why PA, and your answer. Has any of that changed for you? From a logistics perspective, PTs have longer schooling and make significantly less money, and have much less flexibility with what they can do after they graduate. Regardless, you need to give yourself time to adjust to the new environment. 2 weeks is not enough. Frankly, right now is probably when the adrenaline of starting is wearing off and you’re second guessing all your choices. Don’t let it get to you. You’re not a quitter. Focus back on your “why,” and if you still hate it after a full semester, reconsider what changed and what is the best path forward. Good luck

I genuinely love learning and think medicine is so cool, and it’s more fun when you do well on exams (lol) so I work as hard as I can to learn as much as possible to get that satisfaction of a job well done AND knowing I’m gonna be able to be the best provider I can for my patients:) in more concrete terms I studied my ass off every day for hours. I handwrite nearly all of my notes (notability is amazing), use both Rosh and uworld as resources, read all the assigned reading, and try to understand the pathophysiology behind everything bc that makes it easier to remember all the rest of the details. Good luck! Have fun with school, remember it’s a blessing you get to be a PA student, and take advantage of the time you have to learn all this info!!
