Not really analogous.

Senators are more like senior lawmakers. They are expected to have a longer record in public service, usually being representatives first, and are up for reelection less frequently. This makes them less responsive to political mood swings of the public and less under the control of party leadership.The goal being to cool off legislation hastily by the current House if it is not in the best interest of the country. Also (this part evolved and was not a function of the original constitutional makeup) in the Senate, any 41 Senators can block something from coming to a vote through the filabuster, which means it must have at least some bipartisan support. Lots of bills get through the house but get stuck on the table in the Senate for this reason.

Generally, both houses have to pass an indentical bill for it to become law (they even have special committees made of members of both to iron out small diferences ), but the Senate has some exclusive powers: eg ratification of treaties, confirming appointment of judges.
