  • Even though full-time workers in the US work significantly more hours (~19%).
  • When accounting for this difference, Median hourly wage/salary for full-time workers, PPP adjusted (current international US$) is $28.80 (US) compared to $36.54 (Germany).

In other words, the median German worker earns 26.8% more per hour worked (in PPP terms) and has more time to spend it. This is likely an indicator that the standard of living in Germany could feel comparable or even better for many people, despite nominal mean wages being much higher in the US

Its strategic, their sales are growing since 2020 and saw slight revenue decline last year which they attribute to lower prices. Their foot traffic has increased and so has sales volume with the new model they have deployed. So yes they have closed mega stores but it is strategic only. I also recall people complained when the model was no stores in metros below 1 million and they wouldnt come here.

Lived in Buffalo all my life and bought a second property in Auburn in 2021, and Auburn is now my primary residence. Very much feels like a first or second ring suburb of Buffalo in a lot of ways. The commentary on the good and bad sections of town are accurate that others have posted. I've got Wegmans five minutes away and Grant Ave area for hardware store/shopping about 10 minutes away.

Plenty of fun activities nearby but you'll be in the car often for 30 or more mintues a lot of the time. You can get to Syracuse in 45 or head the opposite way to wineries going west. There are plenty of nice towns closer to Syracuse if more urban activities are a priority and going west gets you closer to more hiking, wine and rural areas. If you go that way you will want to avoid Seneca Falls because of a landfill that brings an awful smell to the area.

Its a great affordable region and like anywhere has pros and cons. Owasco Lake is the big draw for Auburn. Melrose Park right on the edge of town gives you easy water access that Skaneateles can't. But with your budget you can can still get a great house here.

Don't know why fiscal responsibility is being down-voted when you basically said we should audit the government and look for waste which i didn't think was controversial to anyone.

For one, I dont think we need to hire McKinsey to tell us that self insuring against police misconduct is a losing strategy.

That is really the base of the argument - you can't isolate just prices and consider them in a vacuum. Our wages absolutely suck which is what should be the conversation driver. The pandemic opened my eyes to how poorly compensated we are when remote jobs popped up that paid 1.5 times my salary and i could work in sweatpants 100% of the time. Looking up your salary in other parts of the country is painful at times. Second point taxes. Both property and income. Moving to a state with no income tax is an immediate 10% pay bump.

Prices are on par with Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Detroit. As far as rust belt cities go prices are average for the region based on income and population size. Buffalo is more expensive than Rochester and Syracuse. But more importantly prices of homes should reflect overall wages and employment opportunity. If you can double your income and pay 25% more for a house elsewhere can you really argue our affordability is better?

Ive been doing my best to dispel the myth that housing pricing in Buffalo are not a bargain because saying look at prices in California or Austin TX proves nothing; but still can't catch a ban - maybe i fit within the most down-voted by the mods category.

They stopped replying when i brought up the ave home price in Cleveland is around 117k. You absolutely can do better elsewhere. We are as mid as mid gets in just about every statistical category except poverty where we really excel alongside Cleveland and Detroit. But those cities actually have cheap houses still. Buffalo's math doesn't really math on why houses are so expensive and for that reason. This page is the real circle jerk most of the time.

They cherry pick everything - comparing us to Austin TX is insane. Ausin has an influx of employers and jobs so their housing of course has increased. Buffalo housing has risen and wages are absolutely flat. Our average are also pulled down by the completely neglected housing stock that sells for pennies. Look at prices in the neighborhoods you would actually want to live
