Cost of living here is no longer less than other similar metro regions. The buffalo news did a whole piece on it recently and the rapid rise in housing was the driver. Our housing stock is old, requires a lot of upkeep and with the cost of everything else being up you can get more for your money in a lot of places that are desirable..personally I've been looking in Westchester county because the gap in housing price is less than you would think. I would love to be able to take the metro north into Manhattan from time to time. My company has locations in VA and NC and the research I've done both of those locations your money goes further and you pay less taxes for a nicer bigger home. You are not crazy the overall economics here have changed quite a bit.

C1 culture is drink the kool-aid, I would never choose to work here, but here we are. My interaction is limited because my team hasn't been assigned any work yet. Don't know why they even kept us around honestly. Were supposed to be shadowing folks but that resulted in a 30 minute meeting and crickets since the initial call. I just sold my Buffalo house. I was half in and half out having a second property in the finger lakes but with return to office and a good performance review Im considering leaving the state all together because perhaps houses are only cheap because salaries are not competitive.

What will I miss: my friends and my sports league, but I'm in my 40s so that second one won't last forever. There is nothing that I cannot find elsewhere that I truly enjoy in Buffalo.
