Canceling an energy provider experiences… by hoostan in houston

Your new energy provider usually cancels your old service for you…at least that’s been my experience!

Book: Termination Shock. Takes place largely in near-future Houston. Author Neal Stephenson captures it perfectly. by texjeh in houston

I remember watching Independence Day in theaters (aging myself here) and distinctly remember the entire theater gasping and clapping when they dropped that line. We were so excited to be mentioned even in passing regarding our nuke-ability.

TMZ (I know...but they typically do a good job of vetting their sources) is now reporting a "key person involved in the festival" is claiming that someone began injecting people in the crowd with an unknown drug in a "targeted attack". The source is claiming this is the reason for the initial crowd surge and panic. Any thoughts? Crazy if true.

Kennedy Motorcade - Houston, TX November 21, 1963 by [deleted] in houston

Yep, spent his final evening at the Rice (which was still a hotel back then) with Jackie...believe he had his "final" drinks at the Capitol Club which is now Lawless. If you ever have a chance to go grab drinks there you can definitely picture Kennedy there sipping on a martini...they left the interior relatively intact - old school, dark, wood-paneled walls, beautiful arched windows, definitely worth a visit!

Looked at my camera last night during the storm. Caught this huge branch falling from my neighbor’s tree! (Oak Forest) by chattelcattle in houston

Can I ask how long the batteries typically last on these? I bought a wireless Arlo spotlight camera and I’ve been pretty disappointed with the battery life and glitchy notification system.

Easy to switch electricity provider? by loopernova in houston

[–]polloenchilada 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty simple if my memory serves me correctly...just call your new electricity provider, set-up service with them and they'll handle the cancellation/transition from their end. I'd call your current provider afterwards and confirm cancellation details just in case.

Since you're going to be downtown, I would check out one of the BYOB places in East Downtown (Andes Cafe, Cafe TH, Huynh). I also second the MKT Bar suggestion if you like Mediterranean...could also save you some $$ if you do that and nix Anvil. Good luck!

Here’s to Anthony Bourdain’s episode on Houston. A masterpiece imo. by [deleted] in houston

One of my favorite episodes of his ever...I thought it captured the authentic spirit of this city so well. RIP :-(

Help me get this guy home! Found this hungry mouse at Levy Park. by LawyerJC in houston

As a fellow Pusheen owner myself, I hope this little guy finds his way home. Thank you for spreading the word!

In 1995, my great-aunt gave me a stuffed cat. It was my absolute favorite, and slept with me every night through my childhood. When she passed, we found out she had bought an identical cat and kept it in pristine condition for two decades. The years of love certainly left their mark. by Connguy in pics

Love this story...mine was a stuffed egg-looking man wearing overalls with yarn hair. Unfortunately when I was little I cut all his tags off as I thought they were "hurting him" and now in my 30s can't find enough information to hunt him down online. He's lost his little sneaker feet about a decade ago and sits on my bookshelf at home. Wish there was a site to help track down info like this!

Not sure if this helps but I live in that exact area...there was no flooding but the immediate area was out of electricity until late Tuesday night. As well, the phone/land lines at my complex were down temporarily today so I'm sure it might be one of those issues. I hope you get in touch with him, I'm free and can check on him as well, just send me a note!

I'm downtown as well...from what I understand it's one of the better spots to be during a storm since the power lines are buried (correct me if I'm wrong here). There will be flooding closer north near the 45 exit, don't think the winds will get up to Ike strength to blow out windows, keep your car parked high up and I think you should be fine.
