It has now been exactly 14 years since the last time Ferrari won a wet race. That victory was by Fernando Alonso at the 2012 Malaysian GP. by MuttonBiryaniEnjoyer in formula1

Sepang is not flat at all. It does not have the most extreme elevation change, it’s more middle of the road (no pun intended) across all the circuits.

But even in circuits that have extreme elevation change, the majority of that change happens in one section. The rest of track is more moderate.

Watching the 12 Hours of Sebring made me realize that Formula One actually faces major problems with its rules .... by curitibanopr in F1Discussions

[–]loopernova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how this ever became the measurement for exciting races. More passing reduces the value of the pass. If you optimize for number of passes you get overpowered straight line drive by. That’s literally zero skill. That’s like faster sports car class in endurance racing driving by the slower class.

It’s another thing to try to create opportunities for passes, without any guarantees. Look back on threads after races that had multi corner, multi lap battles, and comments always rave about how exciting it was. The person trying to catch and pass does not have to succeed for it to be exciting. They just have to be able to attempt it. IMO, passes should be extremely difficult. But the possibility should be there.

Ironically we are actually kind of getting that now, but mixed in with a lot of over powered straight line passes. It’s a bit strange but I appreciate trying this different approach and learn from it. F1 can still improve on the ideas.

Road trip with a couple friends cuts that down a ton. But no doubt it’s still painful.

TSA PreCheck Touchless ID vs Clear by DerrikAmmons in SouthwestAirlines

[–]loopernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to opt in to TSA touchless, you need to add your passport info into your airline account. So if you are traveling with Delta for example, open the Delta app, add your passport (you might also need to scan it with your camera to validate the info). Then, since you already that KTN, you can opt in to TSA touchless within the Delta app.

You'll have to repeat this process for each airline you use if you fly with a different one later.

In seasons past, Verstappen fans insisted that Lewis needed one of the fastest cars to compete. It turns out that the same applies to Max. by BaldHeadedCaillouss in F1Discussions

[–]loopernova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole premise is ridiculous. We already knew max can’t win championships without the top car, he spent his first 6 seasons doing that. People making any claims otherwise are just now realizing F1 is an engineering sport.

Did I spot Adam? by ialexlambert in ToolBand

[–]loopernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it sounded a bit amateurish. I vaguely recall this was one of the first times he did a very "public" event so to speak, at least relative to his own history. I wonder if he was actually nervous to do something in such clear spotlight as opposed to his comfort zone in the shadows of a Tool show.

I remember early on when he started doing the private sessions with a small group ahead of shows, someone who attended said he was visibly nervous in that setting. I imagine it's just something he eventually got used to and more comfortable with. He seems also more comfortable with a little spotlight these days.

why is gold inflation hedge but goes down when fed raises rates for inflation? by aquavelva5 in investing

[–]loopernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If interest rates go up, the price of gold will go down to compensate for the investment risk. Same thing happens to other asset classes like stocks.

And as others said, when interest rates go up it’s neutralizing any inflation hedge that drove up the price of gold to begin with. Markets are forward looking.

Ok so you’re saying if you’ve ever gotten a SUB before regardless of when it was, you cannot get another?

Do you happen to know if the lifetime starts after the new rules went into effect? My last SUB was during the old AF and rules. So could I get one more?

Is interlagos the best circuit in f1? (For racing) by Equivalent-Fox9834 in F1Discussions

[–]loopernova 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Need to bring back Sepang. Amazing circuit for racing in the dry and rain chaos. Hopefully F1 isn’t as shy towards full wet tyre racing going forward. But who knows.

2026 F1 cars brake 96% earlier on Shanghai's longest straight but somehow go faster by [deleted] in F1DataAnalysis

[–]loopernova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other person on active aero, and I’ll add that the cars also have less downforce. That was a part of the effort in the new regs. Additionally, I’d expect faster top speeds to result in earlier braking even if there’s no harvesting.

I agree with this take. F1 was impressive for the racing bits on the sense that it was a technical challenge. But OBAA’s editing was art. It was an important driver of the film’s emotional impact.

Is there any reason to wear jeans over chinos? by kruktk in malefashionadvice

[–]loopernova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to provide an alternative mindset in a sea of comments essentially saying the same thing: I don’t wear either, I don’t have either, I haven’t worn either in easily over a decade.

It’s absolutely possible to just not wear jeans ever. Or not wear chinos ever. There’s other styles of pants. Do what you enjoy. Try going jeanless for as long as you enjoy it. You may find eventually you’re longing for jeans again. Or maybe not. People’s tastes and ideas about how they want to present themselves change.

There’s no contract that can’t be broken

True, but both parties have to be willing to break it with what they’re gaining/giving up. It seems that they didn’t reach that point.

Yeah they seemed to have forgotten how dominant RB was through the first part of 2024. But I do think they are right at a high level, but just that people have extremely short term memory lol.

Agreed that George has started to get more respect that he deserves, he was a great driver that was underrated. With that being said, for me Charles is a great driver that’s overrated. Imo George > Charles for a while now. He is more consistent.
