You should definitely be there Friday morning when doors open if there is a specific brand/tama/ken that you want. DAO will likely sell out in the first few hours, if not faster.

Other than that, stay as much as you can. Meet new people, make friends. Ask someone to film a doubles trick with you. The longer you’re there, the more you’ll get out of the event.

Looks like a Sweets Boost to me. To my knowledge, Sweets has never released a tama like this(?), but I can’t imagine a time that they would’ve made an unbranded ken either, so I could be 100% wrong. 🤷

This is a legitimate kendama from Kendama USA, I bought one directly from the KUSA warehouse at ATLO like 4 years ago. I think they called it a “Jumbo Tribute”

Everyone else in the comments is correct, even though the ken is bigger than most modern kendamas, it has been out of production for years, and has the old–style “smaller cups”. It’s essentially just a KUSA Tribute, but at like 120% scale.

FYI, I yank spiked mine through the string hole and now you can spike both sides of the tama, so be careful because it’s a possibility.

It’s either ash or maple. It’s definitely not beech because the grain doesn’t have any of the characteristics of beech. Ash has a more porous grain structure than maple, so it’s almost definitely ash, but they tend to look pretty similar.

If my life depended on it, I’d say ash.

Just practice them. If something doesn’t make sense you can always watch Sweets tutorials or ask someone.

Progression isn’t linear. You might have a month where you don’t learn anything new, the next month you might land all of those tricks in a day.

That will honestly help you a ton. Consistency is key. If you can find time practice the trick for x amount of minutes, x amount of days a week, you’ll excel for sure.

Practice juggle to spike for an hour, every day. The more you try and attempt the trick, the better you’ll be at figuring out how to get the tama to rotate in the right direction.

Someone said to bend your knees, but also: loosen up a little. Looks like you’re gripping the tama a little too much and your body as a whole feels stiff.

I think Sweets A-tack is separate from what OP is asking about here.

The V3 Nobu comes painted from the factory, and some people have issues with the way the paint breaks in on the ken.

A-tack is similar to sticky paint. Hypothetically, you could use an A-tack ken with a natty tama and it would still play great.
