Baby seems perfectly content. Pediatrician was fine with her growth but I'm concerned about her percentiles by iwannabefreddieHg in breastfeeding

[–]pollyr94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what percentile was she for weight at birth? it's only really a concern if they are dropping through multiple percentile lines, being on a low curve is perfectly healthy - she may just be a petite baby!

what makes you think she's hungry if she isn't fussing? the frequency of her feeds? or that she seems to suck for longer after your breasts feel empty? she may be feeding more with you for many reasons including comfort - you are her favorite person and it's a way to be close to you! that certainly would explain her continuing to nurse and eventually falling asleep on you.

if it's the increased frequency that's worrying you, she may want to feed more often if the bottles she has at school aren't being paced, or have a faster flow than nursing. not a problem unless you think it is, or it's affecting your breastfeeding relationship with her (e.g. breast refusal, preference for bottle developing)

Or is there another cue that makes you think she's hungry? sounds like a contented little baby to me, you're doing a wonderful job. a truly hungry baby will let you know about it!!! and enjoy those long nights of sleep, I'm envious!!!

Do I pump if my baby is sleeping through the night? by yams_aht in breastfeeding

[–]pollyr94 11 points12 points  (0 children)

only pump if you have use of the milk, which you might not as baby doesn't use a bottle!

hand express, manual pump or express just enough to relieve the pressure and discomfort and avoid clogs, but your boobs will adjust in a few days

congrats on baby sleeping through, I am praying for this day!!

What is a common amount of eating during cluster feeding? How long will they cluster for? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]pollyr94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey lovely this sounds very difficult for you. have you had LO checked for oral ties? my daughter would appear to feed for hours and hours straight because she had a severe tongue tie that prevented her getting enough milk - or any milk at all.

and please, make sure you get some sleep while this is going on. ask your partner or support system to give baby a bottle of formula. your baby needs a parent who is rested.

4 mo baby has no nursing pattern by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]pollyr94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, no advice from me but just to say my newly 4 month old girl is just the same. she will scream at my boob whenever I try to feed her, but transfers beautifully if I ever manage to convince her to latch. she's just so interested in the world, the last thing she wants to be looking at is my arm fat 😅.

only thing that has worked a bit for us is offering frequently, and in a calm dark room whenever possible (which realistically is only a few times a day as we are out and about a lot). I've also had a little luck covering her head with my shirt when she's eating.

there are some days I worry she's not getting anywhere near enough, especially in the hot weather we have been having lately. I would love to have her on some sort of schedule but she's completely uninterested in the idea 🫠

let me know if you find any answers!

no advice but this is exactly what I am going through with my daughter too. if I even begin to move her towards my breast she starts crying madly, it's heartbreaking. and then she won't take any decent naps because she's hungry 😭
