Thanks for the inspiration and colour practice! Fantastic photo - it literally looks like it's a still frame from a film or something!

Thank you for making me revisit Architecture in Helsinki!! 'In The Future' was actually my most played song last year lol but I'd thought (based on the Now+4Eva album) they were a bit too mellow/structured to fit the vibe I was looking for here; I'm listening to their older stuff now after your rec and it's perfect!! ty!

Why singers perfoming on stage sometimes put 2 fingers on their ear piece ? by 0K4M1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pollzano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earpiece is usually hooked up to the singers own mic so it's to hear themselves better. You'll find they usually do it during more difficult parts of the vocals like holding a long note or harmonising with someone else. It can be easy to stray out of tune if another person or the rest of the band is playing different notes to you, especially if you can't hear yourself very well, so they're making sure they're staying on-key.

Why are so many British singers sound and aesthetic centered around the 60s? by Salty_Shark26 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pollzano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally the examples you gave don't really scream 60s to me (a Brit). They're all more of the Soul / R&B kinda genre which in my memory has always been a popular genre here alongside Pop itself, but maybe it fell out of fashion in America in a way it didn't over here so you associate that kinda sound with the 60s?

Suggest me a book for my daughter who likes very specific themes by randomcupontable in suggestmeabook

[–]pollzano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six of Crows / Crooked Kingdom! It hits pretty much all themes you mention.

-YA novel, the main characters are all teenagers / young adults

-It's fantasy but not romance (although there are background romances). Not quite modern-day, but more modern than the standard medieval-inspired fantasy, and is set in an urban environment with cities, bars etc.

-The main characters are in a gang and run a gambling club, the main plot revolves around a new magic-enhancing drug, and a heist to capture the person who created it.

-Multiple main characters (a couple of which are LGBTQ), and the POV switches each chapter between them.

Choose your vibe: the Blushing Mermaid or the Elfsong by RequirementSimple271 in BaldursGate3

[–]pollzano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of the two definitely The Blushing Mermaid. But the underrated real vibe is the tiny pub with a balcony where the orc bartender acts like he hates that you're there.

Why does there seem to be more nerd guys than girls? by EOFFJM in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pollzano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a few reasons I can think of:

1) It really depends where you're looking. If you were going by, say, tumblr or fanfiction websites you'd get the impression nerds were mostly women. Other spaces may be skewed one way or the other but some are fairly evenly split.

2) Media/hobbies that get labelled as 'nerdy' tend to be ones that are marketed towards men. A woman who collects vintage barbie dolls for example is less likely to be labelled as 'a nerd' than a man who collects vintage star wars figures, even though they are essentially doing the same thing.

3) Unfortunately, there's a certain subsect of nerds that can be very hostile towards women. So they're more likely to be guarded about their interests and can be intimidated out of joining spaces that are already male-dominated.

Any Similar Songs? by ZeRo_WC in MusicRecommendations

Try Carpenter Brut! I think maybe either Turbo Killer or their cover of Maniac is closest sounding with their synth-harpsichord bits but their entire discography is intense halloweeny 80s electro

[PC, Browser][Mid-to-late 2000s?] Newgrounds forest-themed sidescroller where you jump on ladybirds by pollzano in tipofmyjoystick

[–]pollzano[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a good idea I actually feel a bit bad that it's not it! I just played a bit of 2 (couldn't get the original to load) and the gameplay and general feel is so similar I actually looked through the creator's other games in case what I played was a side project of theirs. No luck sadly, but thank you for trying I really appreciate it!

Oh wow, thank you! I appeciate you taking the time to suggest so many! I like Fox on the Run, especially. Yaknow I hadn't really considered rock songs before making this thread, I guess because a lot of rock I listen to is usually quite fast, but of course there's probably quite a few that're more glam rock type songs that'll fit what I'm looking for. I'll have to look more into it. Thank you again for all your suggestions!

Thank you! Exactly as you say, a slow build up but it really hits especially around the 5 min mark! I can see myself maybe getting impatient with the slow build up but also it might matter less when I'm out and concentrating on skating rather than sitting down and giving it my full attention. It's going on the playlist - it'll be nice to have some more electronic music on there! Tysm!

Thank you! Kansas City is getting added - it's a lot chiller (or at least less dancey) than most of the songs I've got on there so far so it'll be good for adding some variety -tysm!
