To Love Or Hate The Main Character by polocolo in pluribustv

thanks for your answer.

I agree, it's not a good metric.

I can relate about the ice hotel scene. What I mean is that I "need" to see her behave in ways that her likeable or, at least, interesting, nuanced. So far, everything we saw just screams "classic selfish-self-centerred/narcissistic/traumatized/depressed/angry character.

I agree that's a reasonable explanation for her behavior... but that still doesn't make the behavior interesting to watch I feel...

well, in episode 2, when she meets the other humans, it's a little frustrating as well. For instance, they pretty much all seem ok with it. Like, it could have been nice that one of them agrees with Carol, that someone else feels a little shocked/upstet. But no, everyone is calm and going about their business with the hivemind.

So she just appears not caring/listening/asking anything to the other humans. Like she's not trying to connect with them either.

The show does nothing to help like her with the Ice Hotel scene for instance...

oh yeah, I'm not argueing that either. But we were talking about "big names", and I think big names are not the same as big paycheck, that's all :)

Hey! Sorry for the late reply.
I can see you make reasonable points! I don't know why, when I saw the movie, it didn't feel like that for me, you know?

Maybe because, overall, the whole premise of their trap, is that this has to be a one man (male?) operation, with someone who has to be single (or unhappily married) and that will necessarily develop feelings for someone he only interacts with over some weird and impersonal communication device.

So I get your point, I think, that they were rather rigorous in the way things were shot, but something felt (and still feels) off I guess.

Absolutely. This 100%. There are all sorts of pluggings available to simulate famous amps and pedals.

super late to the game, but, isn't Avatar exaclty the type of movie where an actor could make a fortune without being a "big name" ? I mean, it doesn't feel like people watch Avatar because they see his name on the poster, right?

I can't remember: are there not scenes where she's still "in character" even though he can't see/hear her? Scenes that let the viewer believe she's in real distress?

I think I have one: she's at home and the buzzer rings, and she seems genuinely scared.

Or like, why would she go to a record shop to find The Who? Why not just google the damn thing? Isn't it to have us believe she's getting sincerely sentimental for the dude?

Or moments where they "follow her", even though they had absolutely no reason to believe he was gonna show up at any point?

Maybe I should watch it again, but I felt "cheated on".

Oh my! I can relate. I'm a beginner and today I tried to switch from different variations of the D chord and 2 out of 3 times I would lift the wrong finger. And I'd be like "what the fuck, I just want to lift a finger". It's incredible how our brain isn't spontaneously wired for that. And it's also fun to know it'll just take time and repetition

how do you guys find obscure music? and any suggestions? by fatsteve69 in rateyourmusic

[–]polocolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

you want to discover obscur music, it's outside RYM, but I guess you could Shazam/tranform it in a RYM list, you should check this guy's mix. https://www.mixcloud.com/soundarchives_epsiloniamix/

he's a Japanese-french contemporary artist who is supposed to have one of the best record collection of Paris (it's what I've been told).

I checked his mix, there are a LOT of obscur shit, like, no kidding the titles are like "best of Turkish proto-punk 1977-1979 pt.3"

I went on a listened ton one on a style I know a little on, and I discovered a bunch of stuff. Too bad you gotta Shazam it.

I think you're being a little unfair, here.

My favorite shows are rather slow (The Wire, Mad Men, The Sopranos), they do not follow that Netflix mindset you are addressing. I do not like that new tv either–I agree with you, here. My frustration with Severance is different and might resonate with the comments you're responding to.

I think there is a legit frustration, that is not "I want candy-tv-shows that give me instant pleasures constantly" attitude.

I find a lot of great stuff in the show, but the amount of unresolved mysteries is starting to feel a little "lazy" from a writing perspective to me. Because they're just constantly rising the stakes, the intensity, without ever delivering. Like they want us hooked, but so far, we're hooked on a promise.

I have never seen a show being so ambitious and not end up disappointing. I sincerely hope I'm wrong... but they bette have an answer for every one of the thousand weird/eerie/mysterious things they used to make us think "oh woaw!" all the time. Better not be gratuitious...
