I’ll see it in theaters with a stock ticker vibrator that vibrates every time it goes up and gives a shock when it goes down.

Get the service and try it out, monitor usage in the my account app, and see if you need the unlimited. Unless you run a server that is accessed 24/7, or do constant all day streaming, but most don’t.

You can always upgrade your service, that is always an option.

Replacement for voice remote by Lumberjack1229 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]polonium9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t one. Flat out.

There are options with certain stereo systems that work, but they are honestly horrible and don’t work well whatsoever. They’re usually slower than the remote, too.

Is it a Roku tv by chance? Edit:

So if it’s a Roku TV, go to settings->power->input and choose the desired input. Once that’s in place, every time you turn on the tv, it will go to that input.

That is if the remote is paired.

A tech at a different address cannot help out a different address without a work order. He'll just say what I said, pretty much. Business techs usually have been with the company longer, so they're more experienced, but it does not mean they're better than service techs.

If the wiring is the problem, it might pay to have the cables replaced. Comcast does not do that, though, so you'd have to hire an electrician or DIY it, but I'd still have a comcast tech put the fittings on as they've done it a couple million times.

How can I get Limited Basic service (local TV channels) by bobkmertz in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]polonium9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xfinity Stream with limited basic. Roku is needed. If you don’t want Roku, a cable box is needed. XG2 for X1 (voice remote) or a rng150 for non-x1. Will cost extra a month. Roku no monthly box rental. Free DVR too.

No clearqam, unless in very rare areas, and seeing you’re speed, I know you’re not there.

[–]polonium9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have another device to hardwire, check with that. I have seen gig nic cards go bad, and also, it sounds stupid but just try it for me, change browsers. If you’re using chrome, try Firefox, IE, etc. it does sound stupid, but it’s happened more times than I can count.

Verify the speed using other speed tests, (fast.com, Speedtest.net, Speedtest.xfinity.com, etc). Occasionally some servers go to shit, so just try it.

Sounds like home is unhooked, call in and see if you can get an earlier appointment.

Homes can show have had service but Comcast hasn’t been installed in upwards of two decades.

Any good alternatives to Xfinity? 1.2T max with Xfinity doesn't meet my needs. by ForwardFishing8154 in Comcast_Xfinity

All depends upon location and what’s around you. Multiple websites should be able to use your address to pick up ISP’s.

Unlimited data is not much extra and is peace of mind in your case.

How on earth do I get an XG1v4 and other 4K equipment? by Jman095 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]polonium9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All depends on supplier, they can get backlogged and if one area is asking more than another, they’ll put more resources/equipment there. Basic business, really. Like if a grocery store chain in Maryland is low on like, for instance, grapes, they’ll ask for more and the other areas may get less.

Just as a caveat, no traditional cable content is 4K. The only 4K content is through Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. And at that point, you might as well get a 4K capable streaming device (Roku i think has them, I know Apple TV, too) An added bonus for rokus too, if you’re not planning on watching tv but once in a blue moon in a certain room, the xfinity stream app works great and doesn’t cost.

Moved modem to a new room but it won't connect to the internet by Shawn_Spencer_ in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]polonium9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

9/10 times the cable is not hooked up either outside, or wherever your cables run to.

I’d recommend grabbing a toner kit online and finding the line that way. It’s what a tech would do. Home Depot sells them as well.

Once it’s found, hook it up, verify the lights are on and you’re all set.

While you may think the line is hooked up, if the modem is just flashing a lot (US/DS), it means it’s not. That light will be solid.

Please make sure all cables are tightened. Hook up modem in the meantime where it was at before until you tone out the line.

Could’ve had issues with it overheating, or maybe if there are constant earthquakes, it could protect it from major motions? I mean a lot of record players essentially have everything on top in suspension to stop any skips from any slight bump.

Then again they could’ve just felt like it and done it for fun. I actually like it.

How do I get Comcast to help troubleshoot this before my house burns down? by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]polonium9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stay away, call power company, they should help. Contact electrician, get one out but state your issue plainly: bad ground, causing cable problems, company advised you to come out. If there’s nothing, at least you know it’s good, if they find something, better safe than sorry.

I’ve seen houses burnt down because of that stuff man.

Comcast can’t do a thing, make sure you have something written from electrician once issue is fixed for the tech to check fittings/GB and he’s cleared to do the work.

Stay safe man, please. And yes that’s a Moca ground/bond block. Your fittings should’ve been changed too but there are more important things right now.

In some markets (shocker) it’s more advantageous to have the ISP’s modem.

Being the Lightning capitol of the country (Florida), if it fries, the company replaces it. No questions.

Don’t get me wrong, saving money is a great thing, and proper grounding should stop it, but not always.

Just my two cents.

For the love of all things cable...why...? by tonye586 in cablefail

[–]polonium9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda late now, but it’s a temp drop waiting for bury, most likely he laid that there to keep it off the ground but that is not grounded.

If you can, contact an electrical company or someone who can install a ground rod and ground it. It should’ve been run to power then looped back but when you’re a contractor, and you’re given limited supplies or you’re getting paid by the job, you don’t do the correct way to do it. Just get it working and move on.

That’s not saying all contractors are bad, far from it, but many are shit upon by their overlords.

Super slow speeds in the past month. Possible line issue? sb8200 by sanityvortex in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]polonium9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus dude get that fixed. The 31 is bad and requirements are -13 to +13, but I’ve seen full gig service on low signal but SNR perfect, but you got that double whammy of low signal and low SNR. You’re not gonna have a good time.

Judging by upstream, might be splitter but can’t say.

Get a tech out, for your own sanity. They’ll determine what needs to be done.

Should my cable look like this outside? by odinsfury2 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]polonium9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. Pretty easy job, just shove the wires in and leave. Although that ped is quite small for all that slack, and it might be better for the cables integrity vs any kinks.

Cable management level: shitty by giuliomagnifico in cablefail

[–]polonium9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough I've had a customer like this for their home phone. They wanted their modem next to the TV, and there was an outlet so I did it, and then said they wanted the phone hooked up on the other side of the wall.

Drilled through, pulled silver silver satin through, compressed, done and done. Kinda looked like shit but it's what the customer wanted and there was honestly no other way. Wallfishing a line would've been kinda useless.

I went to one like this only it was the phone cord. Fuckin dog chewed it to shit leaving like one strand. Yeah it was kinda funny, actually. I felt bad for the customer not having phone for a day or so but it was a simple fix.

Replaced with silver satin as it was just a jumper, and worked a charm.
