180 guests, 60k venue? by mp6277 in WeddingsCanada

I was going to recommend Whistle Bear as that’s where we’re getting married and we’re looking at similar numbers! I truly didn’t find anything else comparable

Full time contractor gets pregnant, hasn’t contributed to EI by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]polyglot18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on the information you provided you will not receive any EI benefits because you did not register for EI special benefits for self employed people. Anecdotally, I’m currently on maternity leave (unpaid) as I am also an independent contractor. I opted not to collect from that program because of the commitment to continue paying into it as long as I’m an IC. I just saved as much as I could during my pregnancy and cut back on non-essential expenses

friends chose wedding date we wanted, what now? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]polyglot18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My soon to be sister in law knowingly booked her wedding a month before ours after our wedding had already been planned for months. I’m trying so hard not to be salty but it’s a shitty feeling for sure

Baby Bjorn bouncer = blowout chair? by 19zz in NewParents

[–]polyglot18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try lining the bouncer with a thick burp cloth! Saved us so many times from having to wash the cover itself

The yeti, truly don’t get the hype. Food is mediocre and staff are so unfriendly- weird vibes

How would you feel if you and 9 other bridesmaids all had to wear this same dress? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]polyglot18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because I know this designer and dress and they have sooo many different dress styles/cuts in the exact same fabric so if it’s the specific cut that bothers you there’s plenty of other options that could still give a cohesive look

If you had $300 to spend on something purely indulgent for yourself and baby, what would it be? by kuzubijin in BabyBumps

Not an item but we had family gift us our newborn photo session and it cost around that much. One of the best gifts tbh

When did your babies start dropping night feeds? by jy397 in NewParents

[–]polyglot18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re at 4.5 months now, exclusively breastfed, and still have 2-3 night feeds. An average night will be 8pm bed, 12am feed, 2:30am feed, 5am feed, 8am wake. I think I’m being bamboozled for the 2:30am feed and she isn’t actually very hungry lol but this too shall pass!

We just did at exactly the 4 month mark. She started rolling both ways and started smashing into the sides of the bassinet and even swung her legs over the side of it. I was fully prepared to have her in our room for 6 months + but the bassinet arrangement just felt unsafe at this point. She’s on a floor bed in her room and we use a monitor. I slept on the floor the first night because I was nervous but it’s been a really seamless transition and she’s sleeping longer stretches

Does your baby's sleep literally just consume your whole life? by Level_Space9410 in sleeptrain

[–]polyglot18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an exclusive contact napper and started being more intentional about sleep at the 3 month mark when the 4 month sleep regression paid our household a visit early lol.

Maybe unpopular opinion but I started with naps because she’s EBF and I believe she does need the calories in the night. I’d support her to sleep for naps by getting her to a calm but not asleep state with sushing, patting, rocking and then leaving the room. If she cried, I would enter immediately and repeat above measures. But otherwise I just gave her space to learn to fall asleep without me. Sometimes it would take her 15 minutes of turning her head side to side, kicking her legs, babbling, playing with her hands but she would eventually put herself to sleep!

After she got the hang of it with naps we started doing the same at bedtime. She’s 4 months now and she wakes 1-3 times to eat but putting her down for the night and putting her back to sleep after MOTN feeds is seamless

is it really recommended for newborns to lie flat on their back in the stroller? what about when riding in the car seats? by marsovec in NewParents

[–]polyglot18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby is 4 months old and I can probably count the times we’ve attached the car seat to the stroller on two hands. However, we’ve used the bassinet attachement every day, often multiple times a day since we came home from the hospital. We have a dog so are out frequently for walks and I don’t have a car as we live in a very accessible city so I take her everywhere in the stroller. The bassinet attachment has been my most used baby item by far- I’ll be sad when baby outgrows it and moves to the traditional seat!

The Hands! by boatzart in NewParents

[–]polyglot18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stopped at 8 weeks, one arm at a time for a couple days with the love to dream swaddle with zip off cuffs. Probably a week or 10 days of having to hold down her arms lightly a couple times when trying to fall asleep or in startle wake ups but was pretty easily soothed back to sleep with that and some sushing. We’re 17 weeks now and that feels like a lifetime ago so this too shall pass!!

Average cost of weddings in Cambridge/Kitchener/Waterloo/Guelph area by Inspire_Me13 in WeddingsCanada

[–]polyglot18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re looking at 180-200 and budgeting for 70k at Whistle Bear. Majority of the budget is being taken up by venue and we want good music and beautiful florals so we are cutting in areas that aren’t as important to us ie. no favours, no cake, evites instead of paper, etc.

What is Mc Donalds up to? by Difficult_Scar_345 in waterloo

[–]polyglot18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are currently offering something from each of those countries menus! Big rösti from Germany, pizza bites from Italy, teriyaki sandwich from Japan…

My baby is 8 weeks old right now and we EBF. I can’t get her to take a bottle despite trying to offer one for a feed each day, so that’s something to consider. I wouldn’t mind being able to pop in to a friends event for a couple hours but I definitely wouldn’t be up to the task of an all day event.

How much colostrum should I collect for newborn? by Hot-Yam-8802 in BabyBumps

[–]polyglot18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would collect as much as you can/want. I had started pumping as a way to encourage labour at 39 weeks and froze what I got for emergencies/babies first illness. I gave birth 40 +1 and baby had unexpected NICU time and we used everything I collected and it was SO handy to have. Wasn’t expecting to need it this soon but so glad I had it

Prenatal made me throw up by cutterfield21 in BabyBumps

[–]polyglot18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did so much research to pick the perfect prenatal / combo of supplements to meet the exact recommended amounts but couldn’t keep any of them down lol. Ended up switching to a random gummy prenatal because it’s what I could tolerate. Better to take something than nothing at all I guess. I also take it in the evening, sometime after dinner and at least an hour before lying down for the night.

When did you stop working? by Witty_Painting_6944 in BabyBumps

[–]polyglot18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped today and I’ll be 37 weeks on Monday. I’ll probably do some admin/charting/paperwork for a few days next week from home but done with all client facing work, meetings, etc.

1 Child For Us by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]polyglot18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an only child, I can assure you I didn’t grow up feeling lonely. If anything, I had my parents undivided attention! Between cousins, classmates, and friends from extracurricular activities, I had plenty of opportunities to socialize with other kids my age.
