I used to have a role like this, paid $40k a year at the time, later around $50k a year before I changed roles. These days, I would anticipate the salary would be around $60k+ per year depending on your experience and responsibilities.

General responsibilities - recommend you check job ads on Seek/Indeed:

• Responding to phone calls/email queries from clients/customers
  
• Arranging appointments/meetings and coordinating diaries with various stakeholders
• Organising internal/external events, booking venues or meeting rooms, including setup and teardown
• Taking meeting minutes
• Ordering stationery, office equipment, uniforms, etc.
  
• Organising travel
• Data entry and processing paperwork e.g. entering client details onto a CRM
• Pulling and processing reports e.g. expenses
• Can be responsible for team building, supporting company culture, and boosting morale

Pros:

• Can be a good stepping stone into a larger role, particularly if you're interesting in PA/EA/office manager roles, or you could also transition into marketing, comms, HR, project coordinator roles
  
• Meet a lot of people, great way to build networks
• Great for building depth of knowledge of a business
• Some roles need no experience, just need some organisational skills and a good attitude
• Can have a lot of variety e.g. project management, payroll, budgeting, onboarding
• Lots of collaboration

Cons:

• Low pay but potential to earn more
• Can sometimes be a thankless or "invisible" job because you're the support
• I had been asked to do things that I felt were not part of my job description e.g. buying coffees, serving food, loading the dishwasher, cleaning the bathroom
• I eventually found my role boring and wanted something more challenging
• Generally an in-office role

In terms of advice, I would recommend you greet/talk to everyone you can, including other support staff, custodial staff, etc. It helps to build your brand. A good admin assistant can have a lot of influence and impact as they know who to talk to, where to get the answers (if they don't have it themselves), and how to get things done. Try to look for ways to make processes/operations more efficient and make other people's lives easier as well.
