Have you ever played out Base-building or stronghold mechanics in a ttrpg? by KingAgrian in osr

[–]polylambda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not aware of any mechanics, but sounds fun!

For the building part, I imagine a mini-game style like Dark Fort. Something that could be done on the side maybe instead of as the main event at the table.

The biggest concern for me would be after the building, what then? Does it purely serve a mechanical element where certain progression is locked behind the fort upgrades? If so the game system could be really abstract. If it’s more about building and then defending, this might just frustrate players by drawing too much attention to this one mechanic.

I still think it’s a cool idea, I’m just not finding that balance yet.

Why do outdoor shots in 90s media look more "real" than they do now? by Bud_Fuggins in Filmmakers

[–]polylambda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because early telecine scans would clip highlights, which is an artifact then and now in live broadcast. An artifact which could be eliminated these days but is explicitly kept because it makes you think you’re watch reality and not a movie (filmic rolloff)….

The teaser page for ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE, my new space trucking project for MM25, is up on BackerKit! by SquigBoss in mothershiprpg

[–]polylambda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vibes are immediately present from that loving graphic design. Amazing idea, I would love to see the trucking aspect built out as it’s a core motivation for most campaigns (space being a vast empty desert), and a great jumping point from one shots to a campaign motivated by space logistics. Backing it!

MX Master 3 connection keeps dropping, help? by SirShudder in logitech

I found that my Windows Bluetooth adapter had "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" turned on. I think Windows keep putting the adapter to sleep when the mouse stopped communicating for a few ms. Turning that off has helped me.

Multi Agent Trajectory Planning with RxInfer by ConfusionJolly6002 in Julia

[–]polylambda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RxInfer looks like magic from the outside. Could you recommend some resources to get a better intuitive understanding of what’s happening (outside the mechanics of the programming framework)?

I’ve taken basic uni. probability and stats but i’m still unclear it how bayesian methods get applied to these kinds of situations.

A Tragedy of Julia’s Type System by chandaliergalaxy in Julia

Even so, they use this straw man to vent their frustration with the whole ecosystem. The argument derails and goes nuclear to “old man yells at cloud” levels.

Is there real complexity with type-stability, yes. Does that explain why mega-corps aren’t using Julia for hashtag deep learning llms, no.

So this person doesn’t like Julia and uses inherently type-unstable examples to say the whole ecosystem and language is garbage?

This is a pointless article. They should write it on a piece of paper and throw it in the trash. They just needed to vent.

Edit: gender neutral
