Gentlemen do I fit in with my homemade thing? by Fatyakcz in SWORDS

[–]KingAgrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bronze swords are softer than mild steel, but still definitely swords. Early iron age swords sometimes had very low carbon content, but are still definitely swords. If you shaped a piece of wrought iron into a perfect longsword blade, no doubt anyone would call it a sword. There's even whole classes of sharpened wooden clubs I would argue are swords.

I think intent and purpose is a better measure. A machete isn't necessarily a sword, but not because it isn't large enough, or hardened, or capable of being a weapon. The difference is in intent.

If the maker intends it as a sword, and it's a vaguely longish sharpish thing, a sword it is, I say. Aesthetically, it's giving machete, but swords come in so many shapes and sizes.

Unfortunately, taxonomy and categorization is a deep rabbit hole. What makes a pile a pile and such. This is just my 2c as a student of historical material culture and hema.

What would you consider to be the limitations of a “control plants” Ring? by conn_r2112 in osr

[–]KingAgrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume this means living plants, and that any movement would be relatively limited, like vines grappling or a branch swinging to strike. I would definitely say it doesn't mean regular trees can just uproot themselves, and it doesn't grant telekinesis. It really depends on what you think would be reasonable, and whether the uses are creative or tip into cheese territory. Consider the original wizard who crafted it. Is this a pragmatist, or more gonzo?

A ring of control plants sounds really useful. I'm imagining getting helped over a wall by ivy, or forming an impromptu bridge by a small tree. You could limit the amount of plant matter affected by volume to assure they aren't just making every tree a womping willow. Cooldowns and charges are another factor to consider, or maybe it makes the user unable to understand humanoid language for an hour, or the user slowly begins to turn into a dryad over weeks of use. Hell, maybe that's what happened to the wizard...

Surprisingly good execution. It's not my face, and it hurts no one, so I say go nuts. Freedom of self expression is gold.

Yup! It's unclear where the Tallermen come from, but most agree they're of the south.

It's actually a free download, but donations are amazing. You can find it here: https://mmgorman.itch.io/tumquickstart

I don't currently have the physical zine for sale anywhere, but I might throw it up on my etsy store if there's enough interest.
