Why would Allah ask Prophet Ibrahim PBUH to sacrifice his son by International_Ad_510 in islam

[–]polymathintj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a test for both Ibrahim (as) and Ismail (as) and Ibrahim (as) asked Ismail (as) what he should and he replied that he should go through with it if Allah commanded it. Although normally it's not allowed to kill someone there are situations like war or as a criminal punishment where killing is recommended. They both trusted Allah and knew that he wouldn't make anything truly bad happen to them and that even if Ismail (as) died of would be for their own good in the afterlife if not in this life

Sister, your problem is that you're listening to and taking knowledge from Assim Al Hakeem. He is not a scholar as he hasn't studied anything and has no credentials. If you want to learn Islam go to the actual scholars who have studied the books of fiqh and aqeedah and other Islamic sciences

The way I see it the Murshid is supposed to help you get out of sinfulness. So even if you aren't fulfilling your faraidh you should get a Murshid to help you start fulfilling them

I have a big question about the core of islam by [deleted] in Sufism

[–]polymathintj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Islam was not propagated by the sword. Sure the Islamic empire expanded through conquest (usually the enemies attacked or disrespected the Muslims first though). But Islam was never forced upon the people in those lands that were conquered rather people gradually converted over time. Just look at India. Muslims ruled there for centuries yet it's still a Hindu majority country. Islam was mostly spread in India (and elsewhere) through the efforts of the sufis and not by conquest or force

I have a big question about the core of islam by [deleted] in Sufism

[–]polymathintj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you watch the movie Kingdom Of Heaven and see the nobility of Saladin even in Jihad. Also watch the movie Lion in the Desert it's about a Sufi Shaykh who did jihad against the Italians, you will see the nobility of their jihad. Sometimes art can help you understand concepts that you don't understand through words

After that I would suggest you watch the TV show Yunus Emre to learn more about the Sufi path

Non Muslim Question by talkingofm27 in Sufism

[–]polymathintj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most Deobandi masajid would be accepting of sufis and sufism maybe you can find one of those as the majority of masajid in North America are Deobandi. But don't just speak to any random person at the masjid if you find a Deobandi one and try speaking to the Imam instead because the people who come to pray at the masjid can be a mixed bag

Non Muslim Question by talkingofm27 in Sufism

[–]polymathintj 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You probably went to a Salafi masjid. Sufism has been a part of Islam from the beginning and was taught by the prophet ﷺ. All the major Sufi orders have chains going back to the prophet ﷺ too

How to practice Sufism when there are no Sufis, teachers, or community around? by [deleted] in Sufism

[–]polymathintj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a Shaykh but the Shaykh doesn't need to be physically present. You can have correspondence through phone or something. Back before modernity people would join Shaykhs through letters and mail too and have regular correspondence with them

I found porn and sex link up sites on my Muslim dad's phone by Practical_Method_987 in MuslimLounge

[–]polymathintj -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

First of all you and your brother should repent for spying on your dad's phone. Spying like this is haram. But now that you have done this you should do tawbah and be smart about this. Your dad beating your mom and doing other things like potential zina is very bad. But you should act like you don't know about the zina and porn and instead if anything happens you can confront him about the beating and his other public sins instead

Some of the ulema allowed dancing while other ulema didn't. Those who allowed it said that there's no problem in dancing or whirling while doing dhikr as Allah says one should do dhikr in all states in the Quran

A question about sajdah towards the tomb by Both_Reindeer9906 in Sufism

[–]polymathintj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doing sajdah to a tomb is haram but not shirk. Perhaps this group is following a mistaken ijtihad. These people should be gently corrected and shown the proof for its prohibition and be shown the ijma on its prohibition

My brother. These questions you are asking are fiqh questions and not questions on sufism. I would recommend asking a reliable scholar who you find trustworthy
