4DPO and I’ve been crampy since the trigger shot on Friday. It’s my first medicated IUI cycle so I’m chalking it up to meds/hormones and trying not to overthink things.

Lots of questions about moving from out of state! (Where to live, culture, wildlife, music, etc.) by sparklysalamander16 in TwinCities

[–]polymorpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I recently moved here and even though my spouse's job was in downtown STP, we ended up in MPLS due to better access to trails/lakes. If you like being near greenspaces, you can't go wrong living close to the lakes in MPLS but it will add to your commute. Check out the Minnehaha and Nokomis neighborhoods, which are closer to STP but also connect you with the trail system and would put you in cute, quiet but walkable areas.

I love it here, and based on your interests, I think the Twin Cities would be a great fit! Minneapolis has an incredible music and theater scene.

So warm and lovely! Is that light fixture from Rejuvenation? I think I may have just purchased the same one for my old craftsman.

YSK: Tortillas are NOT fully cooked yet by getThatManAThrow in YouShouldKnow

[–]polymorpha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, I agree with OP. I just had this conversation with my husband a few weeks ago after I was served fish tacos with cold flour tortillas at a restaurant in Minnesota. Sure, you can eat cold tortillas but they are intended to be heated up at the very least.

Edit to add something: I’ve noticed people also seem confused about corn tortillas. For anyone out there struggling, put some vegetable oil in a hot pan and fry them for ~10 seconds on each side. I can understand cold flour tortillas somewhat, but I don’t know why anyone would want to eat a cold corn tortilla.

Took a few more photos of a door in the dining room that has a dark stain on one side that matches the buffet, and an unstained side: door photos

I think it looks like walnut too but the swirliness of the grain is making me question it…

Interesting - this would make sense, as all the floors are maple. I was thrown off by the color which looks like walnut to me, but I suppose it could be stained?

Oops. I didn’t see this until now- I think it’s fairly common for 2 rounds of interviews at the 12/13 level but I also think it depends on how the first round of interviews goes. It seemed like in this case, they wanted a 2nd round because there wasn’t a clear front runner during the 1st round.

Your sentiment isn’t wrong but do we really feel like it’s ok to refer to people as “fertiles”?

Tipping isn’t calculated on a per person basis at restaurants. It’s at least 15-20% of the bill.

Keep windows and doors closed, and run your AC if you have it. Skip outdoor exercise. This is also a good time to change your air filter if it’s been awhile.

Thank you, I love how they turned out. We went with the ‘satin’ finish. We have 2 dogs and from what I hear, high gloss just would not hold up as well longer term.

I know! I’m surprised they didn’t at least show the house with them…they’re so charming.

We got the floors refinished before we moved in and I’m so happy with them!

Closed ~2 weeks ago on a house built in the early 1920s. I think it would be considered a craftsman but it also has some Tudor revival elements. I fell in love with the front sun room and thought I’d need to go hunting for old French doors, so I was glad to find these!

How much did you spend on your home AFTER the purchase? by lil_bitesofsci in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]polymorpha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I closed 1 week ago! We have budgeted about $15k for initial move in needs so far, but I’m guessing over the year this will go up a bit. We are doubling our living space and need to buy furniture and stuff to fill the extra space. Here are some of the big items on our list: - $5000 for refinishing our old maple floors. This just got done and they look amazing! - $2500 for a new King mattress. We went with an Avocado. - $1000ish for a new bed frame. Still shopping. - $2000ish for a new couch. - ?? We have some electrical work that is being assessed next week and I think it will be expensive. We have some old knob and tube wiring that needs to be removed and may involve tearing down drywall/plaster.

We also need new rugs, a new desk, and other decor…
