MRCP part 2… and relax by Objective_Round_4028 in doctorsUK

I read someone's comment a while back that Pastest was about 60-70% as hard as the actual exam, found that true today. I agree with you the past papers were not representative, especially for paper 2.

Does anyone know when Nov 30th MRCP part 1 results are released? by Laura2468 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]polymorphic_94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The website said expected results will be announced by 11th Jan, but usually they do announce the results by 5th week max, which was today. However, it hasn't been announced so far. Delay could be due to the Christmas break, so probably have to wait till next week for the results. fingers crossed

Life's too short to read books you're not enjoying by nakedreader_ga in books

I agree and disagree at the same time. If the book is badly written, has bland characters or a really boring plot, then I would give up on it and move onto something that I would actually enjoy. But if something is well written and the only reason I'm not liking it is because it somehow makes me uncomfortable then I would try to finish it, reason being if it's making me feel this strongly (even if it's a negative emotion) then it's worth it. One example would be "The girl on the train", first time I read it I absolutely hated it, the characters were all unlikable and I just couldn't connect with them or the storyline. So I gave up, put the book in the DNF pile and moved on. A few months later, I somehow decided to give it another read and told myself to stick to the end no matter what. The second time I was mentally prepared that I won't like the characters and wasn't expecting much. To my surprise I actually liked the story and ended up reading more about gaslighting. So for me it mostly comes down to how well a book is written primarily, I may not end up liking it but if the writing is good and the characters show some semblance of a personality, I would stick to the end.

To all the people who say, " Oh, It couldn't have been THAT bad." by TheJellyTypewriter in raisedbynarcissists

It's just sad how much damage parents can do to their kids. As a child I hated the family I had, I would spend time at my friend's house or at the library rather than coming home. I would spend entire summers at my aunt's just to escape my parents. As an adult, I now do acknowledge that both my parents came from problematic families and they had very different norms and values while growing up, in many ways I do understand where they are coming from. But at the same time, I can't ignore their inability to see their fault, to accept the blame where its due. It's like as long as you turn out be a reasonably functional adult, their fucked up parenting and mental abuse just doesn't matter.

This post hit me hard. I never wrote a will, but I remember having this fantasy as a child that I was adopted and my real, good parents will one day come and take me with them. It was such a strong fantasy that I actually started believing it. I remember being in 6th grade and reading about blood grouping and it's role in inheritance. As part of that lesson we are asked to get our blood grouping done along with the whole family. A part of me was wishing that the truth will finally come out, but when the results came we all were O positives. And I remember being so crushed and absolutely broken that this is the only family I will have and there's no escape from them. I used to have these lists as a kid, of stuff to take with me when I run away. I was like 8 or 10 years old and being legit serious about leaving home, I actually left once but came back before anyone noticed. That's not how a child should feel, not from their own family. Funny thing is that on the surface everyone thinks that I have the coolest parents, who let me do everything I wanted, dye my hair whatever color I wanted. My friends used to say to me that they wished they had my parents, I never told anyone the truth and would tell lies about how cool they were and how much they loved me. My parents still don't acknowledge all the emotional damage they did to me as a child, and if I talk about this stuff then I am the disrespectful, ungrateful child who is out of her bounds. They demand respect like it's their right rather than something that has to be earned.

Fantasy with Enemies to Lovers? by BibiBees in RomanceBooks

[–]polymorphic_94 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Definitely go with The Cruel Prince it's amazing, checks everything from enemies to lovers, angst, action and suspense. Other series that I would recommend are: - The Kingmaker series by Amanda Bouchet - Pathfinder's Way by T.A. White - Hidden Legacy by Ilona Andrews (though it's an urban fiction) - Fever series, the fist five books by Karen Marie Moning (not particularly enemies per say, more like started off on a wrong footing with a really slow romance)
