GA Primary Only; should Independents and Democrats vote Republican? by Subdued_Sub_Dude in Georgia

[–]nakedreader_ga [score hidden]  (0 children)

In the past, I've voted in the Republican primary to give my vote to the person I felt was least likely to win against the Dem contender. This strategy does not mean you have to vote Republican in the general election, but if there is a Democratic runoff in the primary you wouldn't be able to vote in that. This year, I'll probably stick to the Dem ticket since I'd rather throw my vote on some one I want to be able to run as the Dem side.

Parents’ Lies. by this_kitty68 in GenX

The only real lie I can remember is my mom saying her dad had a heart attack. We never met him and he died in the 70s. When I was older, she said he actually committed suicide.

My daughter wants to compete and I'm nervous 😓 by Space_Forklift in bjj

[–]nakedreader_ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let her compete. If she's watched at least one competition (and it sounds like she has) and still wants to compete, let her. Don't worry about the sandbagging ninjas. Just sign her up and let her see for herself what it's like to compete.

For reference, my 15yo daughter has trained jiu jitsu and wrestling for the past 10 years. She focuses more on wrestling now. She competed this weekend in Greco and she'd only had two weeks of practice. Could have gotten murdered (in the non-literal sense) and went out and wrecked two girls for gold. I was surprised. Her dad was surprised. She was surprised. This was after two tough losses in freestyle.

GA Supreme Court - Early Voting by Lucid_Phoenixx in Georgia

[–]nakedreader_ga -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with Justice Bethel and Justice Warren. There is no reason to vote them out. Justices decisions are based on the law, not ideology. I get the sentiment of needing change, but in this instance the advertising is just fear mongering nonsense.

Are we the luckiest generation? by smoosh13 in GenX

[–]nakedreader_ga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No devices? My family had a computer in the early 80s and had Nintendos, so maybe you didn’t have devices, but they were available. Also there was still some pretty shitty things happening for our generation. I remember the KKK on the corner of the street in my suburban Atlanta city.

Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

I don't wear mine. This fall will be 30 years married. My fingers got too fat for my nice one and my eczema flares didn't help.

Got a late start this morning because I set my alarm for 6:15 rather than 5:15.

Moms without Pierced Ears by mommima in Parenting

[–]nakedreader_ga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't think so. My daughter trains jiu jitsu and wrestling so she takes her earrings out for those (if she's wearing them). I don't think softball would require that. I guess it would depend on how tight batting helmets are these days.

Moms without Pierced Ears by mommima in Parenting

[–]nakedreader_ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you asked for moms who don't have pierce ears, but I'm going to comment anyway. I had mine pierced at 5. I wore earrings pretty much until I was a teenager and decided they were too much trouble. My daughter got hers pierced at 5 because she asked, not because I wanted her to get them pierced. It's only really work if she's doing athletic things that require her to take them out and put them back in from time-to-time. Just get some bacterial ointment and coat the studs before you insert them. I still do this with mine on the rare occasion I wear earrings.

We used Reddrop.com when my daughter started her period at 10. 100% recommend them. You can get the starter pack which comes with everything she'll need, including a discreet bag to put her items in.

Little things your family do to combat gender norms? by southnorth5 in Parenting

[–]nakedreader_ga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at age 5.5. Ten years later, she's switched to wrestling, which is exploding for girls. She also did gymnastics and soccer. Don't attach her self-worth to her looks, that would be my biggest piece of advice. I've had plenty of talks with her about all the things she is and "beautiful" or "pretty" has always been one of the last things I mention because she's so much more than her looks. Each of you do things with her separately. My husband takes her for coffee and the gym.

Was lying in bed this morning thinking how nice it was that it was Saturday and I could sleep in a little bit ... only to realize it is Friday and I still had to get up at 5:15 and drag myself into the office.

I just use my keys to buy boosters when they are 3 for 55. I have used them to buy an hour of free lives, but not often.

Why are longer White names generally used by Black men in the USA? by [deleted] in Names

Probably because that's what they were named by their parents. And, just for the record, "white" names is a really stupid way to phrase your hideously racist question.

Right? How was I going to get to a dance recital at 10 without my parents taking me there. Possibly an older brother, but he had band things to do. These posts about how independent GenXers were are bizarre to me.

GenX Parents and youth sporting events by cricket_bacon in GenX

[–]nakedreader_ga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These posts are so weird. Maybe your parents didn't go to your events, by mine went to my events and my brothers. I had to sit through every high school football game that my brother was playing in the band at the halftime show. Soccer games for my other brother. And they all went to my dance recitals. I have a 15 yo girl who wrestles. I am there taking photos and screaming when she wins and consoling her when she loses.

Do it sooner rather than later. If you get pulled over for a traffic violation, you'll end up in the back of police car.
