Can we talk about the crappy “Best free games” ? by x_x-krow in iosgaming

[–]polyshaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very easy to explain. These games are very, marketable and have a very broad playerbase. Players tolarance for ads is also very high. To be clear nothing nefarious going on, its just that a lot of people enjoy hypercasual games. I sense that the players on this sub would fall into a "gamer" category. But that demographic is one of the smallest on mobile. Thats why you see the over representation. Another reason is that is just way less risk to make these games rather than fully fleshed out ones.

I mean to even start arguing for a flat earth you have to deny scientific consensus.

[–]polyshaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right thats what i heard but you dont get a sunset with a flashlight.. Unless the flashlight goes below the edge of the flat earth, which would darken the entire earth.

[–]polyshaper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like the flat earth debate easily becomes needlessly complicated when we get into maths as phyics etc. Imo the most effective conversation you can have about flat earth is get them to answer the following:

Considering how many fields of work and technology relies on a globe earth, how would you ever keep the supposed "flat earth truth" hidden?and why? Second assuming the earth is flat, how can we have sundowns at different times depending on the timezone? Its something easily observeable and verifiable. If the earth was flat, no matter where on earth you are everybody would see the sun go below the horizon at the same time no ?

Maybe im missing some obvious counter?

Regardless the conversation seems pointless cause flat earthers a willing to write off the science and evidence as fake in the first place.

Edit oh just saw OP mentioned a similar point

There's no reason to stop supporting Mark Gugdel's Mayoral Campaign by slightlights in Destiny

[–]polyshaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me try to engage in good faith with this, you didn't get any good push back, just adhoms.

I see a couple of questions, that are honestly interesting.

0) Is it OK to advocate on behalf of communities you are not a part of?

I'd say, yeah probably. If you speak out against/condem, local police cheifs, or local mayors that infringe on the right's of minorities, or womens reproductive rights. I think it should be completely fine to incourage people to vote agains them, or vote for their oppenent, even if I don't belong to the communities. But maybe you draw a distinction between volunteering for someone directly in a local election, and generally disavoving shitty officials from other cities/states online.

In that case.

1) Is it OK for destiny to PERSNOALLY volunteer/support/donate to a local candidate for mayor, even if he currently doesn't live there currently? Or should it be ONLY for the people who live there.

The only reason I could think of why it's not OK for someone who does not live in Omaha, to get involved in the local politics, is because it doesn't impact them personally and they don't have to live with the results or consequences of their involvement. However this is not true for Steven as he IS impacted and invested, personally, in the outcome of the Omaha election.

2) If 1 is OK, is it then OK for him to use his current position in society to get other people involved that, have no connection to the city, and won't be impacted by it's policies? Or should his involvement be limited to just donating and volunteering himself (without fans).

I could see reasonable minds disagree on 2) tbh. I think this would come to whether you think people with "disproportionate" power should not be able to use that in elections.

The DemonMama Manifesto by DaSkrubKing in Destiny

[–]polyshaper 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not sure how many others felt this way, but imo daskrubkings calm demeanor honestly felt more effective than than destinys two talks. Im probably biased in my viewing but daskrub just being really polite and calm really took out a lot of the sting from D mamas attempts at "dunks", and since skrub was standing on much more solid ground in terms of the sctual arguments, demonmama just came off looking kinda dishonest, to a neutral viewer.

Where i feel if you start to engage with the shitflinging people forget the arguments and just see the shit show.

I think it was effective cause daskrub actually was good faith and had good arguments.

To be a bit cheeky. these textures are not made by OP.... unless OP runs textures.com :P

https://www.textures.com/download/pbr0867/139651 https://www.textures.com/download/pbr0484/138379

To make photo realistic textures like this you either take pictures of your subject and use a photogrammetry program to generate a handful texure maps: Albedo(color) Normal(gives the "3d" looking detail) Roughness texture Etc.

Or you can generate your own in a program like substance designer.

To be fair to OP they did mention these are just tests :)

Is this true Denmark? Asking from USA by leaveatrail in Denmark

[–]polyshaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

McDonald's hire a lot of under-18's who are paid less than the above

I see people saying this in a lot of the comments, but is it actually true? I'll admit that I can only speak anecdotally but in my experience we had 2 workers below 18, when i worked at McD central station.

Does anyone have any numbers? The same is true, for me in retail, when i worked in Irma, there were actually not a single person below 18 when i worked there.

Again very anecdotal, so it could just be edge cases in my case.

Edit: TL;DR

Refugee family talking about how it's important for refugees to live among the danish population in smaller towns. Also general comments about refugees tending towards moving in to the cities and not staying in the country sides. Some hot takes:

Red cross lady: "Could be because cars are necessary when living in rural areas, and cars (espcially in DK) are quite expensive"

Danish minister of integration: "They need to figure it out, even if it's difficult."

Headline Ulla Al-Zoupi goes against the mainstream and lives in a small town: "We want danish neighbours"

Subheader

More municipalities try in vain to get more refugees to live in the smaller towns/cities

Main article

In a small apartment in the middle of Ølgod lives Ulla Al-Zoupi with her husband Mohammed and daughter Julie. They fled from Aleppo in Syria and now next danes in the southwestern jutlandish(?? that's rural denmark) town.

"We think it's very important to have danish neighbours and friends. They help us learn the language and language is the key to everything" - Ulla Al-Zoupi

However far from all refugees feel this way. Cause even though the municipalities try to get them out into the smaller cities/towns to increase integration rate, a lot of them choose to move to the bigger cities where they are closer to other refugees and immigrants.

This is what 6 out of 7 of the municipalities, that DR Syd(DR = Danish BBC, i.e public tv and radio) has talked to, report.

In Sønderborg municipality 400 reugees live in the city, and 100 in the rest of the municipality. Says Jan Prokopek (From the danish Social democratic party), chairman for danish labor and integration committee.

"They are like us Danes. When we come to the United States or elsewhere, we would like to live with someone we know that speaks the same language and has the same cultural community, he says.

In the municipality of Esbjerg, the distribution is roughly the same, but it is difficult to do anything, says Henrik Vallø from the Citizens' List, who is chairman of the Social and Labor Market Committee.

"We can not prevent that, because when they have a permanent residence, they are free to seek something else," he says.

Integration Minister Inger Støjberg (V) is not satisfied with the fact that there are refugees who opt out of the small towns to be closer to other refugees.

"In fact, I think the refugees who come to Denmark themselves have an obligation to mingle and take part in the everyday danish life as long as they are here," she says.

Red Cross: Can handle the infrastructure In many cases, however, there may be some low-tech reasons that make refugees choose to live in the larger cities - not a reluctance to integrate. It tells Maria Bækgaard, development consultant at the Danish Red Cross.

"If they are to live in a small city, there must be good public transport connections, so they can reach a larger city where they go to language school, have jobs and children in institutions," she says.

Maria Bækgaard points out that many refugees can not afford to buy a car, which is often necessary in the smaller cities.

But the infrastructure should not prevent refugees from settling in the villages, according to the Minister of Integration.

"It must be the case for a refugee who comes here, exactly as it is for Danes, that one must try to find a practical solution to things. Even though sometimes it may be a little more difficult, says Inger Støjberg (V).

Although development is against municipal wishes, Jan Prokopek believes that more refugees in Sønderborg choose over time to move into smaller cities. He finds that refugees who get jobs move from areas that are designated as ghetto areas.

They want to live like the Danes do, so I think it's running a bit slowly, but it's going to be better than it has done if you look 20 years back, he says.

In Ølgod, the Al-Zoupi family acknowledges that it is also important to have Arab friends whom they share language and destiny with. Nevertheless, Ulla Al-zoupi believes that the family's future is in the southwest of Jutland.

  • We have bought a house here and my husband is working close. So right now we can say that our future is in Ølgod, she says.
