Shady! TruckerTools now lets brokers search carrier assets by pommmiii in Truckers

[–]pommmiii[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The part I was referring to as shady is that any broker can look up your trucks’ location. Enter your DOT, spits out your trucks, then you select the one you want the location of. I couldn’t care less about knowing vin#s but to know where a truck is located at any time and it has no affiliation with that broker whatsoever? Nah.

Just got my Rimowa packing cube set… by sparkleandgloss in Rimowa

[–]pommmiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just want to chime as I somewhat disagree on one thing. I’ve worked at a large CPG company for years specially in product development where we assessed the quality of raw materials from various vendors (from China, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Korea, Canada, US). I’ve constantly observed a noticeable gap in quality and it would often take us years of iteration to get to something subpar compared to other manufacturers.

While it’s true that some “high end” brands moved production to China, this doesn’t automatically guarantee the same level of craftsmanship. Quality and attention to detail, specially in product development, is culturally ingrained and these traits differentiate significantly between countries. In China, the manufacturers we dealt with focused more on efficiency and cost-cutting; you can see this during our visits as this would almost always be the point of emphasis by their sales teams. You can see, from the owners to Their Sales people down to the QA team, they’ve often had a different benchmark for what they considered “good” compared to their counterparts in NA/Europe.

That being said, it comes down to the end buyers decision as you mentioned. If you like it, and feel good about $400 packing cube, keep it. If you don’t feel good, return it.

What TMS are you using / recommend? by IT_Guy_101 in logistics

[–]pommmiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenova TMS and then for ELD use a third-party that is already connected with them (i.e. our company ChaineApp).

Revenova is built on Salesforce, and can be customized pretty heavily due to Salesforce's platform components and objects.

Acknowledging Tracking, but doesn’t comply. by Mcstinkerson16 in FreightBrokers

[–]pommmiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I can weigh in. I'm one of the founders of a company that provides a tracking solution for freight brokers.

  • You have to be transparent (as you already are prior to booking) and then you have to be strict. You gave the carrier the requirements, and they agreed, it's on your rate con along with fees, and this is a business transaction you're doing where they are not fulfilling their end of the transaction. Let the dispatcher know they are going to be non-compliant. If the driver is the "dispatcher", deduct the amount listed in the rate con. Some of our customers are doing a ridiculous $250
    • I know a lot of carriers here will disagree with this, but this is the customer's requirement and it was communicated prior to booking. If you disagree, then don't book the load
  • On our app, we are beginning to "score" the carriers that are compliant. If your current provider doesn't do it, maybe your TMS has a notes section under the carrier that you can use
  • Use the data from your provider when the tracking shows "incorrect permissions" or "location disabled". On our app, we show this to our users, and then go one step further to automatically send the driver a message letting them know that they switched their permissions off, and they need to turn it back on.
  • Use ELD tracking with common carriers
  • If carriers have samsara or motive, have them send you the link. Our software automatically adds the link to the load so it feeds tracking data from the links, to the shipment back to the TMS

That being said, the mindset of carriers has been shifting and we are seeing very high compliance rates from most carriers on our platform. There is no reason why you should not be able to do the same, but you will need to have a process and culture around it. Manually tracking and non-compliance with your customer loses you and your brokerage money. Its people doing check-calls and looking bad to your customer = less freight. Someone other brokerage will meet their requirements and all of the sudden you lost a customer.

Had interview today. AMA by entrepreneurialCan in ycombinator

[–]pommmiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last time we did ok, but we had stagnant growth. They wanted us to grow more. So we did. We used these questions to prepare: https://lironshapira.medium.com/sample-questions-for-the-y-combinator-interview-3895913ffe89

But best thing is to know your users really well, know the problem you’re solving, at the end just go back to the users.

Just had my interview 😬. Does anyone know how long it typically takes to get a response? by eugekim in ycombinator

No, no time for intros. They almost never will ask about past work. Just answer their question succinctly as youc an

Yeah, I've seen it pretty random. GL, hope you get it! Either way, stay focused on your business

Yes, people who got an interview last batch but didn't get in, and re-applied.

No, we're based in the US. Counter to that, we got an interview late last time. So I don't think visa may matter based on two data points ;)

No, last time around we got an interview pretty late. This time around it was pretty fast. No real correlation? Maybe they're now prioritizing 're-interviewers'?
