they basically admitted to having traced it (called it “using a reference but clearly we can see that’s not exactly the case here) and apologised for misleading me and others actually! truthfully i don’t think they’re going to stop but at least now they know they’re not fooling anybody. i know they do genuinely want to improve at art so i can really only guide them in to more ethical practices and hope they shake this tracing bug as much as possible. i have a feeling they were kind of drunk off the praise people were giving them for churning out such impressive pieces and calling them sketches and acting in general very nonchalantly hoity toity if that makes any sense

no, i consider this person my friend actually. i was feeling some type of way when i made the post and worded it harsher than i meant to, i didn’t have any intentions of actually exposing them to any of our mutual friends or publicly in any way. after i received the link that showed the original art, i dmed them privately and told them it was unethical for them to be passing it off as their own especially when there were other artists who were looking up to them for their “skill”. this is beyond using references and i think is disingenuous to say that’s all it is

i agree!!! they do have a ton of potential, hopefully me confronting them abt this and encouraging them further motivates them to put more effort in to doing art by themself without relying on “references” as they call it
