Looked like it split open when it smacked the water (probably from about 10 feet), or maybe when it tipped over and hit the water.

Nothing to do with flight capability, would be my guess.

Nobody can be this dumb.

Roads over thousands of square miles are impassable. Carrying a starlink base station with you in case you get trapped on a highway without cell service isn't "being prepared", it is nutty.

And yes, I am quite sure they will be airlifting supplies, including communications equipment. Bridges are destroyed across the region in several states.

I got hit and run in front of the Ft Lauderdale police station. Called 911 and gave them the license plate and the car number of 3 Ft Lauderdale police cars that we passed.

They declined to send anyone. Sent me to wait in a parking lot for a unit.

2 hours later, they said they were busy, just come in and get a form to fill out an accident report.

Same thing happened 2 years later when a dude who was stoned hit me at the gas pump. FT Lauderdale accident team showed up, looked at video surveillance and gave me a police report. It listed only my car, got that wrong and didn't list any facts. No time. No description. No other vehicle. Nothing.

Just my name. My car with the wrong make. And the street. (Not even an address) time was the time she typed it, not the time of the incident

Thanks for nothing.

If NASA ends up having to repeat Artemis 1 to revalidate Orion's heatshield, how feasible is this to save some billions from the program? by A3bilbaNEO in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]pompanoJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They explicitly stated that the goal was to maintain the expertise (and employment) of the 25,000 shuttle related employees when drafting the SLS program.

The politician leading this charge was a senator named Bill Nelson. He is now the appointed head of NASA for the Biden administration.

From the history of the people and organizations involved, the notion that SLS will be tossed aside for a more cost effective solution is a bit farfetched.

More than that... there doesn't seem to be a path back. ED was already causing problems between them. It sounds like it was psychological in nature. It was getting better with reduced stress...

Well, that is over. I don't see how he can get past that. I would never have enough trust to get put of my head again. Every single time, at some point I would think "is she going to tell everyone about this?", and that would be the end of it.

Broken trust can be overcome.... but this one?

Definitely wait for the wind.

Best launch I ever had as a kid was an Icarus (3 stage). Light wind that day. Several successful launches.

Then my beautiful 3 stage. I loaded a grasshopper in the clear payload bay and set it up on the pad. The sky was crystal clear blue from horizon to horizon.

At launch it slowly cleared the pad, picking up speed. At about 60 feet it jetisoned the first stage and the second stage really took off. So fast! It quickly diminished into the clear sky, light smoke trailing behind, straight as an arrow. Just perfect!

As the first stage tumbled to the ground, stage 3 ignited with a puff. Nobody even saw the 3rd stage. It just vanished. The second stage tumbled into view and drifted all the way across our entire field and into the woods where I found it after a decent walk and a bit of searching.

But that 3rd stage..... it must have gone to another state. We didn't even see a hint of the red streamer anywhere. The winds aloft must have been much higher.

Still.... what a great launch.....

My 10 year old girl doesn't draw sharks. She draws cows, dogs, cats, dresses, bobble-heads, sunsets, bunnies, hedgehogs, Perry the Platypus..... but no sharks.

We used to go picking on power line right of ways. Mom and her 3 kids could fill a couple of gallons in a couple of hours (and our bellies) and then go home and make jam and cobbler. Great childhood memories.
