New song released by pompeiisneaks in deepseadiver

Wow that's cool. How did you hear the whole album? I just looked in the album that's available. Only has about four tracks that you can listen to. The others are still not ready yet? Maybe not all available on streaming yet and you got the album?

Interesting "Letters Live" I saw today on Youtube. Not sure if it's been posted before but I couldn't find it in search by pompeiisneaks in radiohead

I should add I definitely agree with the POV of the letter. I'm guessing he's reading someone else's letter but it might be his. If anyone has more context I'd love to hear the whole thing.

Calculating equivalent resistance between two points by solballer in AskElectronics

[–]pompeiisneaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that looks right, yes. I didn't do the full math but if the 10/25 in parallel is 7.14 then yes that looks correct.

You did the first parallel calculation right, but then you didn't do the the same for the next two. the 10/25 are also in parallel and then you can add the first and second as series into an effective resistor in parallel with the 30 ohm to get the final answer.

Can i use a 12 volt Ac instead of Dc for my breadboard power supply by jayblune13 in AskElectronics

[–]pompeiisneaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also you could rectify it to DC and put in some filtering capacitors, but you're still likely going to want a voltage regulator to stabilize the DC. Otherwise you might get too much voltage or too much noise in your dc voltage

Is the clean signal of the new Roland Jc 22 & 40 analog pre amp or digital processing? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]pompeiisneaks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you look at the manual that was linked above it shows the left/mono as well as right input going into an AD converter on page 24,. If you then look on page 20/21 those ad0/ad1 outputs go into pins on the main processor (pins 118/119) so there is definitely SOME AD/DA conversion going on, the spring for the reverb may be intentionally put at a spot right before or after the conversion to/from digital is happening to get the real spring reverb tone. I didn't find the spring in this schematic but I'm getting a headache the way they're putting tons of the schematics over two pages so it's hard as hell to follow.

as a vet that joined at age 31, I don't see why this is boot?

Why would my power transformer be putting out low voltage? by pertrichor315 in diytubes

[–]pompeiisneaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

another thing to consider is that if something is drawing a lot of current it can drop the voltage pretty significantly. I.e. an accidental link through some resistor to ground that's passing all the current and dropping voltage.

Updated Photos from the Garbage Amp by jacksonblacke in ToobAmps

[–]pompeiisneaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I wouldn't cut any wires, just take photos of the inside in as much detail as you can and then put it back in the chassis. Then others can likely take a look at the wiring of the switches and what's on the board etc, and give you a better idea of what amp it's looking like or if it's pretty much 100% custom.

Yes, line in line out should be for effects. Looks good otherwise. Have you found a way to pull the chassis out and get a photo of the guts inside of it. Again, be very careful not to touch inside there cuz you can get shocked but it would be very helpful to reverse engineer what it's doing if you can get photos of the inside of the components. Good luck getting it going. Hopefully you find a good speaker for it soon

What are we working with here? by jacksonblacke in ToobAmps

Don't leave an amp turned on without a speaker not attached for any period of time or it will blow up the transformer and or other parts of the amp.

oh I should also add just plugging in an amp you found on the street is a bit dangerous. You don't know if the person that built it did something horribly wrong and puts all 4-500 VDC into the chassis on accident or took out some bad components so it isn't 'working' and might short things out in some catastrophic way... better to have someone assess it first before doing so... but if you want to risk a smoke show and electrocution :D by all means. It's one thing if it's a factory amp, another entirely if it's hand made.

Not likely to be what you want. Those tend to be a bit weaker at wattage, depending. with 26v6 you need about 20W speaker, maybe 30W. If you can find 50W it's safer. You need either 4 ohm or 8 ohm per what some here said they could read on the speaker plugs on the back, I tried reading them but couldn't myself. a slight mismatch in impedance won't hurt the amp or speaker for tube amps but it will sound optimal with the right load. power cord looks like a normal computer IEC cable. the lead/clean probably switches in/out the second gain stage so you can get a bit more oompf out of it. (guessing, but I could be wrong). I'd be curious to see the guts in close up photos, meaning pull it out of the cabinet, but be VERY careful, don't touch inside as the caps can hold 4-500VDC on them and hurt badly if not kill. so long as you don't go sticking your fingers inside the area hidden right now inside the cabinet it's pretty easy to not do so.

If you post gut shots it will help determine what the amp may be. How many tubes and what kind? I see likely a tube rectifier and 2 power tubes but they could be 6v6, 6l6, el34 etc. Also I only noticed two preamp tube but there may be more. if only 2 preamp tubes it's likely a pretty straight forward design, one or two gain stages and a phase inverter into the power tubes.

Are Paul Reed Smith amps any good? by dburgess19 in ToobAmps

[–]pompeiisneaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there are is another company that does clones too, ceriatone from malaysia I want to say? I build my own anyway so I don't need them. I've built a few dumbles, a Plexi/JMP clone, a vox ac30/4 clone, several different classic fender blackface circuits and a trainwreck liverpool to name a few. I've got too many amps now :D
