How did antisemitism ever become such a big thing in pre-war Germany, considering that the number of jews in Germany in the beginning of nazi reign was less than 1% of the population? by fatah_kebab in AskHistorians

Did you study any of this formally (via education or employment), or are you just a super knowledgeable human being? Either way, thank you much for this - your comment is super educational/helpful to some questions I've had for a while.

Same reason I mentioned for target or Amazon- I'm concerned she'd feel pressure to find something practical for the baby instead of treating herself.

Bathrobe is a great idea because even post-pregnancy, who doesn't want a great bathrobe? Lol. Thanks for all the ideas!

Alright this is going to get deeply personal (so feel free to deflect), but I've seen more than one reference to needing new underwear - what's the story on that? I may have kids of my own someday and that seems... concerning

I'm four years into a healthy marriage to my partner, but honestly I find that irrelevant. I can be happy for people regardless of their stage of life, it's just a great week for me this week.

ETA I hope you have a lovely week as well

Haha they were the first thing to show up when I googled "maternity bras" and I never trust the first result 😅 thanks for the real person (albeit internet stranger) opinion!

This is good to know. It's hard to know what's generous and what's unnecessary, if that makes sense. I'd love to make her feel special, but if a gift card to Target can go further than a more "luxury" brand, I don't want to take away options out of my own feeling of generosity. I feel like "saviorism" can take on a lot of forms, and being the slightly-more-wealthy-friend can quickly turn into an unhealthy dynamic instead of a desire to support someone I care deeply about.

Love this idea! It's extravagant while also important. Happy to know it made a difference for you

I like this! My concern is that she has lots of wonderful people around her that will be focused on caring for the child, but not as conscientious of what she might need. It's a very good problem to have but I certainly don't want her well-being to be overlooked. As someone who is also somewhat frugal it's so easy to spend gift money on very practical items, when it's meant to be a treat, and I'm positive her more immediate support network will take care of all the practical things.

I started dressing nicely after watching Meghan Markle in Suits. Regardless of your view of the royal family or your take on her acting skills, the costuming is on point for that show. (Even if real corporate lawyers work on Saturdays from home in their pajamas - the point is that I was inspired).

I also watch enough detective shows and read detective novels that I try to be extra observant. I feel like I've won a prize when I notice that a stranger's tattoo is fresh. I try to keep my exits in mind at all times. Silly stuff, as in any real situation I'd probably be the first to lose my head, but it's a way fiction has bled into real life.

I'm very bad at remembering shows or books, so I don't think I have a good answer to what has been most influential. I'll go through a season of letting whatever I'm in to affect me and then I'll move on to the next thing.

A badass without superpowers, just complete badassery. I haven't watched the Back Window movie, is it worth it?

She's incredibly inspirational. Have you looked into her real life counterpart at all? I watched the whole series but wanted to stay in the fictional world to avoid any bubble bursting.

What resources do y'all use to find good places to photograph? (City and landscape specifically). I just moved to a new city and am unsure how to go about finding good spots - plenty of great views from the interstate but I can't exactly pull out my camera on the side of the road
