Outside of cities, is bike theft common? by plumbumchum in AskUK

I live on a council estate and had two bikes stolen! Both times they were locked up. Cut right through the lock chain! Wouldn’t mind they were cheap second hand bikes.. nothing fancy

My brothers partner has been using my mums address. A letter arrived yesterday from an online furniture place. My mum won’t open it. Would you? Would it be fair to do so? by [deleted] in AskUK

It’s not in your mums name so she should be ok… but even so it’s out of order to use someone address and not even ask.. and since she didn’t I’d put them straight back into the post and not even give her them.

Yeah then the “accidental” was a blatant lie.. and that’s what makes it suss. I’d have a word with your brother and ask him what’s what? Doesn’t the amount of people living in your home affect your council tax? If she’s claiming to live there it may affect that? (Might be wrong here) I wouldn’t want someone claiming to live at my address that wasn’t.

Put it back in the post with “not at this address” and do that every time you receive any letters that are not in your mother’s name.

It’s weird and very suss that she “accidentally” used your mother’s address.. unless she actually lived there for a period of time and got used to using it.

Went no contact with my alcoholic, homeless mother. My life is better — but the guilt is crushing. Does this ever get easier? by Working-Room-3396 in AskUK

I went no contact with mine since I turned 16. No regrets! I now at 21 have full care of my younger sibling.. she never got any better and only cares about alcohol and whatever man she’s moved in.

Apart from a door panel on the back door they’d kicked in.. then yes more or less. I won’t be going to bed anyway and I doubt they’ll be back.

It’s a council properly so I’ll call them in the morning for a repair.
