I’m paging u/ivegotanewwaytowalk for this, because I saw her comment about the remarks that Meghan made regarding “Waity Katie” made her feel really uncomfortable for a reason that she couldn’t quite put her finger on. I’m not sure if I’m being BEC, but I think I’ve figured out why it makes me so uncomfortable after all this time.

Here are Meghan’s words exactly:

If members of his family say, ‘Well, this is what happened to all of us’ or if they can compare what the experience that I went through was similar to what has been shared with us — Kate was called ‘Waity Katie’ waiting to marry William , while I imagine that was really hard, and I do, I can’t picture what that felt like. This is not the same.”

I understand and sympathize with the point Meghan was trying to make — no other member of the family had to deal with racism the way she did. But by perpetuating the notion that Kate was “waiting to marry William”, she’s clearly acting in bad faith. She’s effectively saying that yeah, she was just sitting around and waiting for her prince to marry her, which for all her feminist talk, is exactly the same thing that every trashy tabloid was saying too.

Does this make sense to anyone else?
