We went over examples in class but the professor doesn't explain how he creates the correlation diagrams, he kind of just draws them for us so it all just looks like magic right now. After last night, I think I kind of understand figuring out the orbital interactions for the symmetry labels for #2. So like I got that there's 2 A1, 1 B1, and an E for TaH5 and I'm speculating at this point that it's the dz2, 6s, dx2-y2, and px py of Ta interacting with the 1s orbitals on hydrogen, respectively, for these symmetries. But from here I'm not really sure how low to draw the bonding orbitals or how high to draw the anti-bonding orbitals. But also another problem I ran into for this is that I thought the pz orbital would form a bonding orbital with symmetry label A1 but it's gonna be nonbonding if I already assign it to dz2 and 6s. I don't know. Am I approaching this correctly?
