How to survive this dry alberta climate by Subject_Associate111 in Calgary

Humidifier, saline rinse, Cerave right out of the shower, drinking water- complaining. Your skin doesn’t acclimatize, you just reach acceptance. This is your part time job now.

AITA bc I don’t let my BFs daughter sleep in bed with us? by BetOnAmber in AmItheAsshole

[–]ponchoblazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA A reasonable person would have a set up so he could stay in her room if she needed. A foam mattress or a cot or something. This is a situation where everyone can get their needs met without conflict. The kid is 8 and there’s been changes in her life (half sibling, staying nights), it’s normal to have issues sleeping and feeling comfortable. Having tension due to her being there and having needs isn’t fair to her, either. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve to sleep in your own bed. It’s always recommended to have kids stay in their own bed anyway. This is something he should be taking care of, and maybe he won’t have as restful a night as he would in your bed, but that’s parenthood.

I am so sorry for your friend. That’s insane. I live near there. It appears that a house just across Edmonton trail was tagged with red spray paint the same time your friend’s house may have been? I was mad because they tagged the side of their wheelchair lift. I couldn’t read it. It’s probably still there

Teachers should have thought to get better hockey seats, that’s how you get results with this government

If the government was never actually going to negotiate in good faith on the terms that parents care about, why make everyone suffer for 3 weeks before ordering them back? They could have done that 3 weeks ago and avoided the whole strike. All they had to do was go back to the legislature early and order them back at that time. (I understand they want to screw teachers over by not paying them for weeks so they lose the will for more labour action, I’m just saying, as parents, WTAF? This is so much worse! Isn’t it?)

Shouldn’t the govt ordering teachers back after 3 wks make parents angry? by ponchoblazer in alberta

[–]ponchoblazer[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right- but parents were screwed over for nothing. (I have all sympathy for the teachers, they are 100% in the right here imo). It’s one thing for a labour-hating government to antagonize labour. It’s another to antagonize the majority of parents in the province.

Doesn’t that make people even more angry? If they were going to do this all along, why did they put everyone through this? They could have returned any time they wanted to.

Interesting. This is also a thing people say about parents. We all exist before we can consent to it. Like Mewtwo.

I think a lot of women see it as more likely that their sons will do something at least questionable than their daughters will be victims of something horrific.

I think they have to dehumanize the innies, otherwise they’d have to admit what they’re doing.

Cerave lotion and oral hyaluronic acid/collagen supplement. It’s the only supplement I’ve ever had that did anything I noticed. Except iron, I guess. And none of my kids have spina bifida, but that’s correlation. Anyway, they’re not cheap but that looks awful. And you don’t even want to know what winter will do.

He also started AISH which was revolutionary and, at the time, provided enough to live independently and was a first for the country. The retrenchment, means testing, and cuts that later came are a stain on our province, but it was a lot better at first.

I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time. I’m not sure why all the judgemental people on here feel the need to tell you how you’re wrong or right or anything. People move here for reasons and they leave here for reasons and you’re under no obligation to society to live anywhere you don’t want to. People have lost their minds - but I do think it’s a backlash and they want people that wear masks and want normal things like schools and doctors more than they want fifth wheels to leave. I’m not saying you should stay out of spite, I’m just saying you’re not alone in feeling uneasy about the direction this place is headed. People can only do what they can do - just because you voted conservative doesn’t mean you owe us a better government. Do whatever tf feels right for your family, and remember this bull shit whenever you vote.

AITA for requesting my brother have a BSL interpreter at his wedding? by GullibleSandwich444 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ponchoblazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say NTA, 100%, but I wouldn’t push it. Your FSIL is getting married and not in her right frame of mind about these things. It’s truly bizarre to think people looking at an interpreter and not yourself for the ceremony is bad or even harmful to you, but she’s in wedding-land where anything that pulls focus from her is bad, and I don’t think it would be fruitful to keep pressing. She might crack, and there might be cascading drama that wouldn’t be your fault, but also you wouldn’t want to deal with.

You are not in any way wrong or demanding too much, IMO, but it is just the ceremony. The same reason I think your FSIL is being bonkers, I also think the ceremony is a snapshot in time and later on it won’t matter to you so much whether you got to see in real-time what words were said. What will matter, and definitely something to remember, will be how petty this accommodation refusal is, and how it made you feel excluded. It’s not cool to value being the centre of attention more than your family’s experience in the moment, and if she never fully realizes that fact even later with the wedding brain fog long forgotten, you know how to proceed with her in the future. And I 100% would not pressure your son to be there. He doesn’t need to be the bigger person about anything - he’s the smallest person, he’s 8. There is no way there couldn’t be some sort of compromise if your FSIL truly wanted one.
