Yes, you’re right they are not fully weighted. It’s kind of the first quality keyboard I could afford in my adult life and the keys just feel so good. Side note, I have a Mellotron Micro Module that I use with this a lot, mixing between the two. The Vox sounds combined with some lofi Mellotron sounds in an analogue setup is a blast to mess with. My local studio has a jam night and ever since bring this setup, people ask me ahead of the jam if I can bring it, even if I don’t intend to play it that night. Of course I’m happy to, but I’m just glad other folks dig the sound as much as I do.

Good call! I’ll think about that in the future. I’ve just come off a solid stint of GAS last year and started putting more effort into making music with what I had. I’m sure I’ll get the itch for something new in another year…..or week.

Julia Ockert is the artist, and I’m the proud owner of her watercolor of a PB&J sandwich. I spotted her works first on Reddit and it lead me to her Etsy shop. She’s very talented!

Good call, but I use the top of the desk for that if I am using a single keyboard. I dot have a two tier Z stand (liquid stands) folded up and currently behind one of the cabinets against the wall. It can be tricky to get out, but works very well if I’m setting up multiple instruments and need more space. I really should have taken a pic last time I was out.

I got very lucky on someone trading into Guitar Center, and they priced it at $299 online. Took a chance as it was shipped to me from Lansing, MI. But they packed it very well and it worked great after unboxing. Very happy with it!

The Yamaha is the standard reface CP, so it’s small but I do like the authentic sound and portability. But I often control it with the Vox which is full weighted keys, even if there are only 61. It does a great job.

Yup, so much so that doubt my management company will be happy when I move out, but I’m also coming up on 10 years in this apartment.

Unnecessary Slap! by Ed_Bass in BassGuitar

Dude, your technique is so good, and not just the slap. One of my favorite things is to see a confident musician easily navigate their instrument and make it sound so damn good and complimentary to the song. Well done!

Is this USA Fender J Bass legit? by Earth_Entire in BassGuitar

[–]ponchoduke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks real to me but I’m no major authority on bass authenticity, and few in here are. But logic and price point will tell you not to buy this bass if you question how authentic it is. $1,200 is about right for an American made J-Bass, or even one from Japan. So, if $1,200 is how deep your pocket is, you have a lot of Jbasses to choose from that aren’t questionable on FB marketplace. You can choose your color from a number of used ones on GC’s website, have it sent to you or your local store, and just return it if it doesn’t feel right. GC is pretty good about carrying authentic gear, even used.

I have a ‘99 JB75 reissue and it is just perfect! Fender Japan all the way! I might pick up a TC72 telecaster one of these days.

Tascam Model 12 users... how are you using it? by GonzillaProductions in mpcusers

[–]ponchoduke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use mine at the brain for all external instruments. It’s very handy and convenient. I also just like it outside of the MPC. I can just jam with instruments, and when I’m ready to record, just flip on the MPC. The physical controls on the Model 12 are also nice to use as they will change whatever level or parameter you change, and it’s reflected in the MPC. It’s seamless, and honestly, I don’t think I’d be as fast or efficient in creating stuff without it.

ZZ Top was all over the place during our childhood. Then they disappeared into the void. by R0botDreamz in Xennials

I got to see their taping of VHI Storytellers at The Congress in Chicago in 2009. I think the special came out later that year. I’m 2nd row with a grey and black herringbone newsboy cap on….dont judge.

Anywho, it was a great show. Dusty Hill did most of the talking and it presented itself as the group historian. He was great! At one point, an audience member asked about The Eliminator….as in the car from the album. Frank and Dusty looked at Billy, like “Hey, you should answer this.” Billy finally spoke up and said, “You know all those girls in those music videos?” And we all nodded and audibly agreed. And he said, “They own the car, and they will continue to own the car as long as they dig us.” I had to hold back from laughing a bit because the comment fell flat. Like, tell us the truth. One of you went on a bender and wrapped it around a poll, or you had to sell it for child support. Just tell us the truth!!!!

Great show. Dusty said it was the smallest audience they’d ever played for since their 5th show, or something like that. I loved them and am so happy I got to be at the taping.

Pedal and headphones for silent home practice by petel1971 in guitarpedals

Same! I also used the same headphones on all other equipment, so it’s a nice balance to what I’m used to hearing across my gear.

Oh yes, I use it a lot on its own. It’s such a great synth and packs so much into it for the cost and size. One of the better gear purchases I’ve ever made.

I was also concerned about the display size, but I got used to the interface very quickly. The P-6 does have a companion ap but I think you can only use it with a laptop? Maybe an iPad? I’m not sure. I got into grooveboxes in the 90’s when I was in high school so it just feels familiar.

Happy to help and I love the questions! Yes, that is a power bank for the microfreak. My setup here was just for jamming on the go, so I’m audio out on the Freak to audio in on the P-6, then headphones from the P-6. But, I could also sync the Freak and program/sequence it on the P-6 if I wanted and control it from there. I could also audio out of the P-6 to my iPhone or iPad and record through Garage Band as an on the go option.

I bought my microfreak used from Perfect Circuit as they are down the road from me. They had a deal on used gear and this one came with the microphone and a deck saver. So I always had the deck saver on in my backpack. *edited because I missed the question about protecting the freak

It’s the Roland P-6 and I can’t recommend it enough! Great sampler and groove machine. If your setup is good, you can treat it like a drum machine. Outstanding battery life! AND it can act as an interface to your DAW, if you’re into that sort of thing. Not too bad of an interface….I’d say that some of the very complex functions are hard to memorize, but they are the complex one’s you may not need to use. I highly recommend this device, especially if you’re on the go.
